City History To Current Setting
A little over a decade ago, two vampires named Lazarus and Halwyn took over the city with the help of a number of supernatural creatures - a 'coming out' party that had mortals fleeing the streets in terror. The Oligarchy brought things back to order a year later, with a cover story titled "Gas And Chemical Leak Causes City-Wide Hallucinations". Most people believe it, but many mortals didn't doubt what they saw. They are 'in the know' even though they don't know a whole lot.
With his power wrestled away from him, Lazarus dethroned the Luminary (Leader of the Oligarchy) and took his role. The Mimic Demons (Oligarchy and City Security) followed him, respecting his reign. But after two years of Lazarus' posturing and failed leadership, the Mimics mutinied and named the Oligarch for Vampires, Kerr Galvin as a more responsible Luminary, casting Lazarus out of a role that he'd literally killed to get.
With Kerr came peace. It lasted a very long time. Then one day his progeny - Ben - discovered a book that could summon and enslave an ancient kind of demon. He showed the book to his journalist friend (Murphy), who published a portion of it thinking it would make an interesting article. Unfortunately, the ancient demons in question were Mimic Demons. Not wanting to be summoned and enslaved, they escaped to a different plane of existence. Shortly after, Kerr also disappeared. His fledlgings declared their blood-bond with their sire broken. The double blow of losing their security AND their Luminary forced the remaining Oligarchs to divide the city into districts, so they could better control smaller portions. The same laws applied - to keep the supernatural a secret. But what happened next were behind-the-scenes moves for territory and after two years of bickering and opposing laws from district to district with no cooperation or progression from the District Leader Council, the Ward took over to centralise the rules once more.
This time there is no political reign, just supernatural police (Wardens) who enforce the primary rule of keeping the human population in the dark about the presence of supernaturals. Read more about the Ward here. (https://www.roleplaycity.com/forum/index.php?board=520.0)
The City
The city is a representation of a large American city (such as Chicago, Indianapolis, San Francisco, etc), therefore we haven't named it. It does, however, have a name, so please do not refer to it as The Nameless City. The city is distinctly broken up into recognisable locations; if someone was to wander into the Industrial District, they wouldn't mistakenly think they were in the city's art and cultural mecca south of the city. The city does have the touch of an ocean on its north-west. Please do not write that it is the Pacific Ocean.
The Weather
The weather is what America is experiencing here and now, as all these Roleplays are supposed to be happening in today's day and age, with all the modern conveniences available, so consider this when proposing a roleplay start - it's a good idea to discuss the weather and time of day/night, for a lot of people have characters that can't venture out in the daytime hours. Sometimes it's fun to have a rainy RP as well. Please note it doesn't snow (naturally) in this city.
The Citizens
Almost five million (5,000,000) people live in the city. About 40,000 are vampires, 80,000 are demons, and another 250,000 or so are 'other types'. Mortals still outnumber the supernaturals by a hell of a lot, and vampires have a fairly united front. Altogether, they make up 8% of the city population - which is a lot. Most other cities have 1% or less than 1%, meaning that this city has eight times more supernaturals than anywhere else. It has to do with a number of leylines criss-crossing each other in 'hotspots'. Pisky Memorial Park is one of them, Capital Building is built on another, and a few more can be found around multiple city locations. Numbers of the supernatural are high here.
Note: This city has a high percentage of homosexuality, and the population knows about its LGBTQi+ majority and does not find it peculiar. That's just how it is.
