Title: Shadow Play
Post by: The Cedar Witch on December 25, 2007, 05:09:30 AM
A full moon... The Akari girl looked placidly out at the sky above the sea. It wasn\'t long ago when she had encountered an undead creature for the first time, on a night much like this one. Her mind flickered to that scenario, the ghost, the strange man and the fight. It had only occurred to her after she had declared this a meeting place, that the very lighthouse she was standing outside of could be haunted. But perhaps after meeting a second undead, she had become desensitized to the fear of transparent things. Besides, who was she to fear?

The looming building cast a lengthy shadow that shied away from the moonlight. It had been four days since Storm had been thrust into a situation that she doubted she had any right to be in. Four days since she had come teasingly close to death and for the first time, wanting to live through it. Healing had been unnaturally quick for her, taking a mere hour to repair all major damage. An improvement, she mused.

Three days the girl had spent wandering between the forest and the shore, venturing out of the cover of the dark foliage only when the sun had set. She had no desire to have any contact with anything alive - or dead. During those three days, she continued a strict training regimen that she hadn\'t practiced since she was in her homeland. She had switched sides on numerous occasions during that time of war. Personally, she saw it pointless to fight. Yet, because of her obligation, she was sworn to both sides. How could she favor one over the other? Both saw value in her ability and Storm was not the type to avoid bending over backward to please as many as possible.

Her mind ventured back into that memory, removing it carefully from it\'s high place on the shelf of things meant to be forgotten. Back to when the bloodthirsty, significantly more vicious side\'s Capitan discovered her ability. That man. Icy blue eyes. He had kept her for his own, using her whenever and however he deemed fit. Her own recollection made her cringe in disgust. How blessed her escape, and she thanked the gods for the first time in over sixteen years the night she got out.

Now was different. She no longer prayed. And now it seemed as though she had been thrust into yet another war with a man who surely would be no different. But she had to serve, she had to obey. Can\'t make anyone unhappy, god no. Her gray eyes visibly turned away from it as she placed the icy blue orbs back on the shelf.

Waiting. Always waiting. She had no right to be impatient, however. This wasn\'t her life anymore, she was merely a vessel. Storm shook her head, as though to clear the self-pity from her mind, and began to focus her attention on a spot far out in the serf. She had time to spare, Damien surely would not come for awhile. With less effort then it would have taken her a week ago, she rose a sphere of ocean from the sea. Her purple eyes followed the orb as it rose higher and higher into the sky until finally she released it, watching as it shattered and fell back into the ocean. Storm knew she had improved, gaining more self control and strengthening her psychic abilities. Hell, maybe it was about time she try to wield shadows. It had been awhile since she was forced to practice that forbidden art.

Her eyes glistened lavender as she aimed her focus on the lighthouse-shaped space around her, the darkness, the absence of moonlight. Momentarily, she allowed her claws to lengthen and slashed quickly at her wrists. Blood flow allowed an easier aura conductivity. She felt for her own energy in her blood, drawing a portion of it from her body and mending it to the energy of the shadows.

Everything could be manipulated, this was the first lesson she learned when dabbling in the forbidden side. The first lesson she had learned from icy blue eyes. The second one was to cooperate when she was given what she didn\'t want, but that was another thought, another story, that she placed forcefully back on the shelf of her mind.

Slowly, but surely, Storm drew the shadow about her. The difficulty of the task lengthened her reaction time as her focus was solely on Darkness. She weaved the silky aura in several patters and experimented with different techniques, becoming reacquainted with her lost art form. After she felt as though enough of her energy had been expended, she slowly set the thing back into it\'s place, detaching her energy from the shadows.

Slowly the girl exhaled. Despite the fact that what she had done was not any "hard core" wielding, it drew enough from her to quicken her heartbeat. It had been too long and she was rusty. Storm removed the hood, allowing her head exposure to the moonlight.

"A beautiful night." she whispered to herself.

Writmo cowered in the shadows in her wolf form watching the Akari. She\'d never seen one before and was bewildered by her. She watched her pull the shadow about her and release it and was amazed. She sensed the girl didn\'t want company but stalked forward anyway. A low whining greeting issued from her mouth as she approached. She hoped this creature was not violent in return to her gesture. The Dark Wolves mark stood out white on her raven black forhead and for a moment, she regretted making herself known.

Storm froze, feeling another consciousness draw forward from the perimeter of her sensitivity. She did not turn immediately, allowing the creature to choose whether to flee or show themselves. Her eyes assumed a dull reddish lavender color as she read the new presence for it\'s intentions. The whine solidified her assumption that this creature had no vicious intentions and Storm turned to face it.

Such a curious thing, the wolf. Storm could feel a deeper level of understanding coming from it, giving away the fact that this was not a simple animal. The girl\'s eyes flashed curiously as she examined the beast. She highly doubted that this was an Akari, but no other explanation came to mind for this smarter-then-the-average-wolf. Prior knowledge told her this was not a werewolf either, much to her relief.

This, certainly, was no Damien. The Akari gave the wolf a small smile, unsure of whether or not it could understand the spoken word. Might as well give it a try... she thought silently to herself.

"Hello..." she offered, awkwardly, waiting for some sort of reaction while wondering how much longer it would be until Damien would come and how he would react to this unexpected presence.

She was impatient and not necessarily in the mood for anything other then what she lingered here for. The Akari hated waiting, but she hated inactivity even more. Surely this wolf could help her pass the time, if anything.

Writmo laughed, a deep growl in her throat. She cocked her head at the Akari girl, playing dumb. Oh, how she loved to tease. She kept this up for a moment, but could hardly keep her composure. She figured she would amuse the girl and decided to speak aloud.
"Hello," she cooed. With her mind, she brushed the girl\'s consciousness. She laughed again, "An odd sort of creature you are." She stepped closer and sniffed the girl curiously. "Akari, are you not? I\'ve never seen one before. Very interesting and quite lovely, if I do say so myself, though a bit, cautious. Fear not, I only hunt those damned Angels. You seem anxious. Why for?"

Storm recoiled as their minds touched briefly. It felt much like receiving a hug from a complete stranger and for the Akari, it was too uncomfortable.
How rude... she thought, agitated by the forwardness of the wolf. Anyone who knew how to make contact psychically should at least have some manners.

The girl jumped a bit when the wolf spoke, then relaxed a little as she felt the tone was more curious and friendly then threatening. Storm was far from afraid. If anything she felt insulted by the mere suggestion of there being fear in her caution. Her eyes darkened into a deeper shade of red as she wrapped her black cloak tighter around her body.

What did she mean by \'I only hunt those damned Angels\'? As far as Storm was concerned, angels dwelt in the heavens and those that wished to hunt them could only be assumed evil. But then again, who was she to judge? Hadn\'t she chosen a not-so-good side, once upon a time? As of now she was more neutral then anything, but hanging out with vampires...

"I\'m surprised you know anything about my race. I mistook you for one before you started talking." That awkward smile found its way onto Storm\'s face again.

"You seem anxious. Why for?"

The inquiry was innocent enough, but Storm wasn\'t about to give out any unnecessary information. Recognizing this a merely small talk, the Akari\'s eyes lightened into a more rusty color.

"Someone agreed to meet me here. They\'re supposed to show up any minute. I hate waiting. I\'m not so patient." An awkward laugh escaped her lips, sounding hardly like her own voice.

"So tell me, what brought you to this place? Aren\'t you a forest creature?"

"A forest creature?" she questioned with a laugh. She rose into her human form and smirked, "No, dear Akari, I am no friend of the forest. A hunter of Angels, a demon of the night, a Dark Wolf, whatever name you fancy, I am Writmo de Lobo Oscuro, \'Rhythm of the Dark Wolf.\' I imagine you\'ve not seen a Were Shifter before?" She laughed again and intruded the Akari\'s space further. "It matters not why I am here. Only who lurks that I might find." A growl rose in her throat as a dog barked in the distance. "Filthy cur," she muttered.

Storm\'s eyes merely fluttered in surprise as the wolf transformed into a girl before her. Intimidated? No. The Akari was very confident of her ability to defend herself, if need be, especially after her rigorous training for the past four days. Besides, she had no intentions on starting anything.

However, the in-your-face-attitude struck her as disrespectful and rude. Storm hated being talked down to as though she were a harmless little girl. The thought of it made her eyes darken into a black. Her spirit form (or Isabella) stirred within her, calling for her to retaliate and put this beast in her place. Despite this urge, Storm managed to put on a placid smile.

"Well...that\'s...interesting." she said through clenched teeth, hoping her effort to be polite would give a subtle hint to back off.

Sensing the Akari was becoming angry, Writmo backed away and became the wolf once again as she felt the need to defend herself.
"There\'s no need for anger, Akari. Settle down. If I may ask, what are you waiting on? An Angel, perhaps?" A growl rose on the word Angel. Oh, how she hated them.

The rage inside of the Akari refused to subside, and the desire to assert her superiority grew. She struggled to gain control of herself, succeeding in only enraging the demon inside of her further:
"What the fuck are you waiting for? You could tare this creature apart without so much as a blink! Such a rude thing doesn\'t deserve to go unpunished!" it seemed to say to her.

Storm\'s eyes flooded black and she felt her fangs prick her tongue. Despite her efforts to hold back the transformation, she felt her claws lengthen and could do nothing to stop her skin from changing gradually into a deep shade of purple. The fact that the girl transformed back into a wolf did nothing to mend the already broken dam, which now released torrents of uncontrollable anger surging through Storm\'s body.

The low growl issuing from the throat of Writmo did not help matters at all. Storm immediately assumed she was growling at her, taking it as a challenge, and her wings tore free from her flesh.

"Do not tell me to settle down, dog," she spat in her layered demonic voice, as though speaking with two voices as opposed to simply her own.

((OOC: don\'t be afraid to retaliate, let\'s make this fun. :)))

"Dog?" Writmo growled ferociously. "Who are you to insult me, you verminous hellion!" Her voice was thick with anger and her body trembled with hate. Akari had just made her black list. "Damned angel lover! May your body burn in hell with the rest of the foul creatures of the earth!" She lunged at the Akari, aiming for the girl\'s slender arm. The desire to feel the satifying crunch of bones filled her from nose to tail. "Filthy creature," she bellowed as she tightened her grip and dug into the girl\'s skin with her claws.

The Akari\'s eyes widened in pain for a brief moment, franticly flashing random colors. She shook her head, as though trying to clear her mind of the pain in her arm and her eyes reverted back to pitch black. In her fully transformed state, healing would be virtually effortless and would take merely ten minutes. But Storm didn\'t have ten minutes.

Lengthening her claws out to their full glory, the Akari aimed straight for the wolf\'s exposed neck. If that failed to cause the beast to release it\'s grip then she would have to resort to different tactics. She had many things up her sleeve that did not involve claws or teeth, many psychologically crippling attacks. The demon inside of her seemed to laugh pleasantly, enjoying the aspect of psychological torture.

Writmo released her grip to avoid the claws, but kept close and lunged again. Her eyes were violently bright with excitement. She laughed, a low growling laugh, hoping her teeth would find a more suitable hold.

Storm was prepared for another lunge and used her wings to aid in her dodge, the wolf\'s teeth and claws skimming her other forearm. Quickly she channeled energy to her fingertips, feeling for fire. The elemental manipulation came quicker to her with blood flow. Lavender flooded her eyes as she sent a shower of sparks in the direction of the wolf, using her wings to assist in jumping over the wolf at the same time.

With a smirk she aimed for the wolf\'s back with her elongated claws, thirsting for some bloodshed.

Writmo dodged the sparks, but wasn\'t quick enough to avoid the Akari\'s claws. An earsplitting howl of painful rage rose in the night. Blood seeped from three deep gashes beneath the wolf\'s ebony fur. Anger filled the her as she forgot the pain and lunged in attempt to tackle the Akari. This fowl beast would not get the best of her.

As Storm landed gracefully on the ground behind the wolf, her eyes blazed in silver as her crimson stained claws emerged victorious. She licked her fingers deliciously, not so much enjoying the taste (much too bitter), but out of showmanship.

The girl turned just as the wolf was upon her, failing to move quickly enough to dodge the tackle. She was pushed into the dirt and could feel the wolf\'s claws embed themselves into her left wing. Storm cried out in pain - a noise that could hardly be considered Akari. She made a violent attempt to turn the tables and flip the wolf around so that its back was planted into the dirt.

I\'ll claw out your fucking stomach, Storm thought menacingly.

Writmo felt her claws push into the girl\'s fleshy wing with satisfaction. SHe growled with pleasure as the Akari cried out. The beast tried to maneuver her to her back, but the wolf scrambled away a few metres. "Enough," she hissed, "I haven\'t the time for this." She truned to walk away, but stopped at the sound of a wolf\'s call in the distance.

"Don\'t you dare run from me." The Akari growled menacingly. She hated leaving things unfinished. Her wing seeped dark crimson and she had half the mind to rip out the wolf\'s throat. However, she could feel her injuries taking a toll on her. It would be near impossible to fly for long distances, much to Storm\'s frustration.

Where the fuck is Damien?! Storm glowered angrily, glaring up at the sky as though he would descend from the moonlight any moment. Sharp pain shot up her arm and throughout her entire left wing. She groaned. What got her into this fight in the first place? The girl cursed herself for her emotional instability.

The howl in the distance worried her. If there were other wolves out there, the Akari was sure she would be torn to pieces. She shuddered, wondering just how much strength it would take to fly (or climb) up to the top of the lighthouse and away from the danger.

Just like last time... She mused.

"Run, pfft. From you?" The wolf scowled at the Akari. She howled back to the wolf in the distance. She could smell him now and she knew who it was. She laughed aloud. She smelled angst in the air. She looked at the girl, obviously in pain, before her and winced as pain of her own shot through her back. She felt the other wolf approach as she lay down, unafraid of the Akari. She, the girl, seemed beaten.

Scorpid approached with caution. He padded over to his lover and whined. She shook her head and whimpered with pain again. He growled at the beast, noticing it was still hostile, but in pain as well. He nudged Writmo to her feet and rubbed his face against hers. "Alright?" he whispered nervously.

"I\'m fine, or will be," she smirked in her wolfish and laughed a bit. "Alright, Akari. Is this finished? Or shall your flesh be torn again?" she barked turning to the beast.

The Akari bristled defensively as the other wolf approached. She could hold her own against one but not two. Swallowing her pride, the girl admitted to herself that she was too wounded to take on both of them. Despite the utter disrespect and taunting coming again from the female wolf, Storm could do nothing to fight back.

She was well aware of her own capabilities. If she so desired, she could tap into the needed energy to rip out that dog\'s throat. It would be pointless to waste such energy on a fight started out of a few misplaced words and damaged pride. Storm knew it wasn\'t worth it, the throbbing pain in her wing and arm were shouting that loud and clear.

The Akari spat in the direction of the wolf, hissing inhumanly and muttering a string of curses before backing up against the safety of the lighthouse. If need be, she could and would scale the tower and rest on the roof. Truce for now, Storm thought angrily.

"If you ever cross me again, filthy wolf," she threatened through her clenched jaw, vast amounts of hatred unheard of thrashing about in the pit of her stomach.

Writmo didn\'t flinch as the Akari spit at her. She growled, low and menacingly, and bared her teeth. "Be gone, you dishevled wretch, I don\'t have the energy to play around with Akari. If our paths cross agin, one of us, that is you, won\'t cross anyone\'s path again." With that, she turned swiftly and barked to Scorpid, who was crouched low, ready to fight. She gave him a dirty look and shook her head.

Scorpid rose reluctantly. He cocked his head to one side at the human like girl before him. Akari, he thought, interesting. He moved toward Writmo and looked back over his shoulder, trying to catch the Akari\'s eye. He was confused about this creature and why she was so angry.

The Akari watched the two warily as they left. New revelation: wolves are fucking bad. Plus she was having some sort of reaction to the saliva in her arm, which was now turning a sickly shade. Storm glared at their disappearing forms, retreating into the forest as though nothing happened. Somewhere in the back of her mind, a familiar memory with a motherly voice: "pride comes before the downfall".

With a groan, Storm dug into her energy reserve. Her wounds burned like fire as she half flew, half climbed up the side of the lighthouse. After what seemed like hours, the Akari collapsed on the roof for the second time since she found the accursed place. She glanced glumly at the moon.

"Fuck you," she muttered angrily, to no one in particular, as she reverted back to her human form, frail and bleeding. Using a small amount of energy, Storm sealed the gaping flesh in her arm. The infection, however, remained, creating a sickly shade of green in her skin and causing her weariness to nearly double.

\'Stupid unreliable vampire...\' She didn\'t have the desire to heal up the wounds elsewhere on her body. The girl let sank into herself, waiting still.

God, she hated waiting.

Writmo\'s sensitive ears twitch at the Akari\'s words. She laughed and kept walking. Her first victory, though a shallow one, a victory none the less. She nuzzled Scorpid and moved on into the darkness of the night.
