Harrington Zoo
In the late 19th century, Wayne Harrington, a wealthy sawmill owner, purchased a large section of forest land south of the city. After his death, the city purchased the estate and founded a zoo. The zoo spans 100 acres, most which are developed as exhibits and public spaces. The remainder is devoted to a buffer zone.

Collection
The zoo manages one of the largest live animal collections in the area, with over 1,000 animals, representing more than 300 species. The zoo provides a home for many endangered, threatened and vulnerable animals. The zoo's botanical garden includes close to 100,000 plants and trees representing more than 1,000 species.

Exhibits
Harrington Zoo is famed for creating naturalistic exhibits, with awards for their Dolphin Cove, Tropical Rain Forest, and African Savanna - among others. They are divided into bioclimatic zones, featuring different natural habitats ranging from humid tropical rain forests and coastal deserts to temperate wetlands.

Hours
The zoo is open every day from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, though the persistent could find a way in after it closes.

Fees
Children under 5 are admitted free of charge, while all others pay 15 dollars.
