Old Roleplays / Re: So Much For That

It wasn’t hard to pick up on Bill’s discomfort. It was unfortunate, because as Bill stated, he really did need to eat. But would he be eating at the cost of his guest’s comfort? No way. Emil shifted, taking the cup in hand.

“I’ll go put this away, Bill. You needn’t lie if you uncomfortable, hmm, darling? I know you’ve been taught to be polite, and polite you are. But it’s difficult for me to be the best host possible when you’re not honest with me! It’s not a criticism, honey, know that. But I would like you to keep it in mind.”

He stood and gave a ‘be right back’ finger, making his way to the kitchen so quickly that once again in a blink of the eye he was standing there without the drink and probably confusing the hell out of Bill.

Emil sat back down, crossing his legs and looking down at the assortment of rings on his fingers for the moment as he tried to remember where they were again. Oh, yes.

“No, darling, I think it’s best if I don’t feed from you again. You need time to recover. Even a little blood loss is still a blood loss!”

He bit the bottom of his lip, moving on to the topic of Lamar which seemed to keep coming up. It was unavoidable since Lamar was his roommate and now things had gotten sticky it seemed in between him and dear Bill.

“I don’t know the details of the relationship between Lamar and you, nor do I think it would be appropriate for you to privy me with them, but I will tell you this: You shouldn’t waste your time on a guy who isn’t willing to waste his time on you. Or even a woman, for that matter! Why, I don’t want to assume what you’re interested in and not interested in- that’s your own private business, sweet pea. But when it comes to who you give your passions to, one must discriminate. It’s your heart that’s at the core of things after all and a heart is not something to be toyed with.”

Emil ended up being gone for ten minutes or so. Talking could be heard in the background, but the actuals words that were being spoken wouldn’t be distinguishable to Bill’s ears.

When he entered the living room, Emil was holding a wine goblet containing bright red liquid. One could guess what the contents of it were.

He sat down on the couch next to Bill and took a sit of it, setting it on the coffee table and pointing to it,

“Do you mind if I drink that as we converse, sweetie? I know it makes some of my friends uncomfortable and I try not to do it, but Lamar wasn’t here when I began to bugger around the house and I’m not sure when he’ll be back. I could call, but I don’t really want to bother him all the time. He  already says I act like his mother!”

Emil let out a chuckle, poking fun of his own behavior. Indeed he did parent Lamar a bit, but only because he cared about him.

“Do you know where he went?” Emil asked casually. He thought Bill might know, considering the ‘confession’ the boy had made earlier.

Emil was on a quest: to find his friend Heather’s lost earring. After yesterday night’s events he felt solely responsible for its loss and he was determined to find it. Were the earring replaceable he would have, but it was of sentimental value to the woman and thus here he was, searching the damp grasses.

The vampire was dressed in a button up white dress shirt that was buttoned down halfway to expose his chest, black dress pants as well as black dress shoes, a gray plaid checker fedora and suspenders which matched the hat. On his wrist was a gold watch and to his neck clung a golden star of David, both of them made of the metal rather than spray painted color.

As he approached the pond he suddenly heard a voice….and not one that sounded particularly friendly. In fact if he was being completely honest with himself, he’d sworn he’d heard a growl. The vampire paused in his tracks. He didn’t want a conflict, and he’d be the first to admit that he’d lost track of who and what was around since he was focusing most of his attention on searching the ground for the glimmer of silver.

Now who exactly had he encroached upon and upset? He soon spotted the figure and his supernatural senses began to kick in. He couldn’t be entirely positive, but his instincts were telling him that he was interacting with a lycanthrope of sorts.

“Oh, me, darling! I’m here! I’m sorry if I’ve startled you, I’m just having myself a little scavenger hunt!”

Emil called out in a friendly tone.

He remembered how frightened Bill had been when he’d mentioned werewolves days ago, and for good reason: he was well aware that in shifted form, not even a vampire would be capable of fighting one off without the aid of a silver bullet. Hopefully this one would play nice, then. They were in vampire territory and he was sure that alone had some influence in whether a brawl would break out…right?

He let out a chuckle, giving Bill a gentle pat on the shoulder.
“Oh, I don’t think so, love. I’d  be the most flamboyant King since Edward II! Although I do think there have been cultural shifts since that point in time, I’m not sure England is really ready for that sort of thing. Oooh, but the case is much difference elsewhere, I’ll tell you darling! Mmm, Sweden, the country where my mother’s from, would likely be overjoyed to have me. And Finland, too! Perhaps even Denmark.”

He smirked thinking about it, though the topic had been changed and it was time to address that. He tried to recall what Bill had remarked and after a moment he did recollect.

“But that’s right, pookie! You don’t care so much about what country I’d be comfortable being King of as much as you care about my couch! Surely we can move there. Why don’t you head on in there and I’ll be in in a second- I need to tell Dylan a couple of things,”

He was trying to fairly split his time between his two guests. Bill wanted his attention, that was certain, but Dylan was still fairly fragile from the night before and he wanted to be sure Dylan had everything he needed as well as make sure the boy didn’t feel excluded. Thus far, it had gone over his head that Bill was purposefully trying to get Emil alone. In the moment it seemed only coincidental.

“You do?”

Emil asked, softly at first.

“You really do like shopping?” He spoke giddily while managing not to squeal. The vampire grasped Bill’s hands invasively, shaking them as he did a bit of hopping up and down. That’s when the squeal of joy actually did escape, filling the room and bouncing into the other rooms of the house just as quickly.

“Oh this is going to be soooo much fun, darling! I love shopping you’ve no idea how many pairs of shoes I own and my goodness, did I use to own more sunglasses before Lamar discovered where I keep them! That boy has stolen more of my necklaces than I can count! Ohhh how I need to get a couple of new t-shirts, darling, because I do admit ‘I heart New York’ looks promising when you buy it but now that I live here it’s so much more of a novelty. Not to mention you get called a yankee walking down the street! Yankee! My word is this the 1700s all over again? Though, once I open my mouth, the next thing that comes out of someone’s mouth is redcoat! Can you believe it! All of the years I’ve been living here, paying their taxes, and still I’m a lobsterback!”

He was getting a bit off topic, dropping Bill’s hands and scrunching his eyebrows together as his excited raving soon turned into a rant about how he was discriminated against on account of his British accent.

He puckered his lips out, giving wide innocent eyes.

“If I’d been the King of England I’d never have fought you all on your independence! I’d have said, ‘Well go on and have it, dearies’! I’m not the bad fellow at all!”

He spoke sincerely, as if he was truly trying to convince Bill that he was not responsible for the revolutionary war.

“Ooh, I can guarantee that, sweetheart! And if we don’t have an absolutely amazing time, I’ll take you out shopping to sweeten the mood!”

Emil felt that it was a generous, fun-loving response. Though after speaking it he paused, realizing one key point: not everyone liked shopping. A horrified expression crossed his face as his eyes widened and a dramatic gasp escaped the vampire’s lips. He looked at Bill with the type of disbelief that might accompany someone insulting his deceased mother.

“…You do like shopping, don’t you, smoochie?” He asked in a hushed voice, holding his breath until Bill’s response just for extra emphasis of how important the answer to the question was.

There wasn’t a real question in Bill’s rambling, was there? At least, the question posed wasn’t something Emil could answer exactly. He figured that Bill was just airing his thoughts out. It seemed the youth needed to talk out his concerns with another person before figuring out what to do. Though he was social, Emil tried to keep his concerns to his own self; it was hard enough to have to deal with your own problems and he couldn’t imagine what a burden it would be for him to expect someone else to deal with his problems too!

“That’s true, darling. Benny is going to be looking for Thomas. But those clubs are always a bit of fun, don’t you think, puddin’ head? I love the dancing. I absolutely love to shake on the dancefloor every once and a while and I adore the people I meet there! Why, I’ve made so many friends through Risk that I’m sure Venture will be much the same. I hear that it’s being run by the same people, though I’m not quite sure exactly. Oh, if you want, darling, we can go sometime when it opens! Maybe I can even get us in on opening night!”

Emil gave a playful wink. In his mind he imagined opening night would be an underground Hollywood scene: prominent, powerful vampires showcasing their prized pets, making appearances just to make a statement. He was sure the VIP area would be packed and he envisioned a red carpet type scenery with the sensation that you were a celebrity of sorts.

He raised an eyebrow to that statement. Why on earth would Lamar say something a silly as that? Of course that amusement park wasn’t a human stronghold! There wasn’t a such thing. Well, perhaps there was, but Emil certainly didn’t know anything about the paranormal hunter society of the city, nor did he want to know much about it.
“Oh, Lamar must have slipped up on his words. Fantastika is a nymph stronghold.”

He lifted his hand and let it go limp as a dramatic indication of sweeping away the misunderstanding.

“Oh! Dylan was just telling me about that last night, in fact! I’ve  got the flyer here somewhere. Hold on!”

He spoke, buzzing out of the room with supernatural speed back to the living room where he thought he remembered placing it. To Bill’s eyes however it would have seemed that Emil was standing in the same place this whole time, with a piece of paper suddenly appearing in his hands. The speed was something he didn’t mind using so long as he was in the presence of individuals that knew what he was.

“Here, take a look!” Emil handed the flyer over to Bill so that the mortal could look it over himself.

“I think it’s lovely that they are offering free entry,” Emil noted the perk at the bottom of the flyer. “I’m sure that will get them lots of business.”

What did Bill need to know? It was a tough question and the information that Emil had was always changing. He understood things weren’t quite ‘settled’ and thus there were territories that had been yet to be claimed, ‘neutral’ territories so to speak, but he suspected they wouldn’t be for long.

“Well, darling, what I know is this: there are about seven claimed territories. City central is controlled by the vampires and headed by a gentleman named Jake Mccloud.  Chinatown is a stronghold for a particular type of demon, though I don’t really know much about them. The industrial zone, why, that’s where the werewolves are.  The ocean an commerce…where we are right this moment in fact, is controlled by the Dark Angels. I don’t know too much about their laws, either, which is something I quite need to be informed about I suppose! South District is controlled by the vampires, but that one’s got a different leader, I believe by the name of Vomas. The Meadowcrest woods is shifter territory, and there is a nymph stronghold at Fantastika! A lovely little amusement park if you’ve never been. Why, it’s just adorable.”

He thought back in his head, hoping he didn’t miss anything. The changes were still fresh on his mind and he had some investigating to do before he was fully relaxed with it all.

He wasn’t sure what Bill wanted him to say. It was as if Bill was asking him for information that might convince him to accept the offer. But in Emil’s mind, if he didn’t feel comfortable with the mind sharing then he shouldn’t feel like he needed to do it.

“Say, you. You’re no sitting duck! There are rules that prevent species from harming humans. If you don’t feel at ease with someone inside of your mind, I certainly don’t need to be in there, sweetie.”

There were rules that preventing excessive killing of humans, but with the new districts, some were kinder to humans than others. There were few things that truly protect a human from supernatural beasts; garlic and stakes to the hearts were mere myths. Perhaps becoming a vampire oneself or surrendering oneself as property to a supernatural creature as a pet; but besides those options, humans indeed were the least protected of all. Emil didn’t want to frighten Bill of course, and though bad things could happen to him, he figured it was very unlikely that they would.

Bill had some valid questions. Some of the humans Emil had dealt with had not been as forward thinking as this one was, though similar questions had been asked in the past. It was only natural to be curious about how it worked- especially when so many of the humans he encountered had the powers used on the without their consent. He hoped that Bill understood he wouldn’t do such a thing unless it was absolutely necessary, but right now, he wasn’t getting a fearful sensation from Bill. It seemed that for now it was honest curiosity and the need to know all the information before making a decision.

Emil closed the dishwasher and stepped back in order to make space f or them to converse.

“Each power is separate. If I wanted to, well dear,  I could read your mind. But what I wanted to do last night is more along the lines of memory sharing. If I were to do it, I wouldn’t be hearing your thoughts or reading your mind, nor would you be hearing my thoughts or reading my mind exactly. Why, I would send you the most important information all at once. It would seem like a lot to process at first, but the human mind is quite spectacular! All of the information that could have taken me decades to collect can be yours in one instant!”

Though, he’d done this all before and had taken time to sift through the memories that he wouldn’t be sharing. It was of the essence to leave out any emotionally negative memories that he had as well as leaving out the identities of the people he knew whom were of a particular species. Emil never knew who had outed themselves or not, thus, he tried to make the memory sharing as impersonal and general as possible.

It didn’t take long to put the remainder of the pancake into a container and wash the plate off. Emil was putting the dish into the dishwasher as Emil posed his question; but it wasn’t really a question, was it?

Bill had been thinking about thought sharing. That was one thing that Emil appreciated about the young lad; it was becoming apparent that he wasn’t too shy to reject an offer just so that he could think it over. He’d made the right choice about donating his blood and now he was trying to decide what would be the best choice for him when it came towards telepathy.

“Mmm, of course darling. What exactly was it that you were thinking about that had to do with telepathy, hmm?”

He asked the question instead of what he normally would have done: guessed the boy’s feelings and made suggestions based on either direction they could have been going. Right now he truly wanted to hear the thoughts that had been going through the boy’s head. Maybe he would be able to offer clarification or advice.

Although Bill had offered to help, Emil rushed to his placemat to retrieve the dish before Bill could manage to do it.

“Ah ah ah!” Emil scolded, though the tone was more jokingly than it was firm.

“When you’re a guest in my house you needn’t do the dishes.”

He genuinely believed that a lot of people had lost the term ‘hospitality’ in their vocabulary. So long as someone was a guest they shouldn’t be expected to cook their own meals or clean up afterwards. It was the host’s responsibility to make sure that the guest had the most comfortable stay as possible and Emil was glad to do it, perhaps in part because he could get so lonely during the daytime hours that he was  willing to do anything to make someone stick around for a while.

He hustled off to the kitchen with the plate and began to wash it off the in sink.

Dylan held his head back up and ate a couple more fork bites full of pancake, but it was evident that he either wasn’t as fast as an eater as Bill or had no intentions of eating much of it. Half a pancake had been eaten but nothing more.

Emil stood in the open archway that connected the kitchen to the dining room. He didn’t want to seem like he was watching the two men eat- it would be odd, surely, to glance up and see someone studying your chomping! But at the same time the vampire wanted to be sure both of them had everything they needed and were content with things. He couldn’t taste test, but nearly every time things turned out as they were supposed to be. It was hard to make measuring mistakes when you had vision beyond a human being did.

“Mmm, thank you dear!” Emil responded to the compliment, tipping the corners of his mouth upward. He turned to Dylan who, despite the delicious food, still looked like he was suffering.

“Dylan, honey, do you need an aspirin or something?” Emil asked, remembering that Dylan had told him something along the lines of drinking to rid of his sorrows. Drinking to that extent usually meant a pretty bad hangover the preceding day.

“Nah, I don’t need aspirin, just another beer!” Dylan retorted, giving a sarcastic expression back at the vampire. Emil pressed his lips together tightly, obviously unsure as how to react to the unruly comment.

“Mmm…my wine cabinet doesn’t open until the suns sets. Anyway pookie, I don’t think you should be drinking, here or anywhere else. It doesn’t do well for you, sweetie!”

He tried to deliver the news as politely as he could, but Dylan responded with a groan, resting his head on the table again and shielding it from the piercing lights.

At first, Dylan only turned his head to the side at Bill, giving him a vague look. He was tired and not in a good mood. Then again- who was ever in a good mood when they had a hangover? He blinked a couple of times at Bill, noting his weird hair and thinking a couple of negative things about that.

“I know that you’re Bill! Emil only said it like fifty billion times!”  He finally huffed, threading his fingers through his long hair and banging his face into the table.

“My head hurts sooooo  bad,” He whined, covering his eyes from the dining room overhead lights.

It was evident by now that he spoke with a bit of a gay lisp, though the accent did seem local.

Soon after, Emil bustled into the room with a serving tray, placing it in the middle of the table. He wasted no time in taking each plate to who it belonged to- Dylan got a plate and Bill got one, as well as a glass of orange juice. The syrups and butters stayed in the middle of the table.

Dylan lifted his head to look at the plate that had been placed in front of him, expression turning from a scowl to a pleasant smile.

“Oh my god. Is that a face on my pancakes?” Dylan hissed.  Emil smiled in response, but added in,

“Language, Dylan.”

The long haired boy shook his head and rolled his eyes.

“Okay, yeah, sorry. It’s cute though. Almost too cute to eat,” Despite his statement though, Dylan had already unwrapped his silverware and had his first stab at the pancakes with a fork.
