(Follows \'Morning Routines\')

Two weeks on from the rather surprising event of being kissed by Rico, Matthew\'s world had changed quite a bit.  Not only had his mistress finished her career with the guards, but she\'d taken to locking herself away in her bedroom in misery and had gone off the food that he took her.  This wasn\'t good for the baby she was likely carrying (and the vomitting every morning had certainly convinced everyone that it was real) and had the Lord Liari in knots, but she was too upset about the way her career had ended and by being prevented from seeing Prince Mayhew or attending his wedding to care.

On a personal level, the servant had been kept on tenterhooks in his own home.  He didn\'t blame Rico at all - his only crime had been playfully thanking Matthew for calling him friendly... by being friendly - he knew it was all him, but he couldn\'t figure out what to do with himself.

Every time Rico accidentally brushed his arm while they were cooking together, or pressed against him while squeezing down the very narrow downstairs hallway, Matthew\'s heart skipped and raced and he blushed fit to be a beacon for ships miles out at sea.  Rico would apologise for this invasion of personal space and he would forgive it immediately, but it always left him flustered and feeling awkward.  Thankfully, Rico seemed relatively unaware of his blithering reactions.

It wasn\'t just at home, either.  Suddenly, he was extraordinarily aware of everyone that passed him in the street or brushed against him in the hot press of the crowded marketplace.  Men and women both had this strange effect on him, where he was hyper-sensitively aware of every touch or look he was given, every smile or laugh that came his way.  He was looking at people in a whole new light, suddenly aware of the very confusing and exciting emotions that were aroused within him whenever he received some attention.

Of course, it was also not just his emotions that were becoming aroused to an excessive degree.  He found himself staring desirously at the alluring curve of a woman\'s cleavage, at the broad span of a man\'s shoulders, gazing thoughtfully at legs and bellies and hands - all of which gave him the most pleasant tingles.  He went to bed and couldn\'t help exploring his body, which was not an unusual thing in itself, but every night was completely unheard of for him.

Since Rico was the one he saw most often - and in intimate settings such as around bathing times (it was only natural they pass each other half clothed when they shared the water) or when they cooked together - he got most of Matthew\'s attention.  It wasn\'t deliberate, but Rico was a very beautiful man to gaze at, he\'d decided, and his movements were always graceful and frustratingly alluring.  He stared too much, he knew it, but thankfully Rico was gracious enough to simply give him a wink whenever he caught Matthew gawping, which stopped the blonde immediately.

It all seemed to be getting out of hand, and not even having the distraction of having to pander to Lam couldn\'t have come at a worse time.  The house was spotless from him taking his frustrations out in cleaning (not that it slowed him down when he went to bed), so there was nothing for him to do each night but socialise with Rico, who was becoming more appealing and glamourous in Matthew\'s eyes by the second.

Tonight, the Greek man had suggested they take their biscuits and hot chocolates (both delicacies that Matthew had learned to make that afternoon and couldn\'t wait to try and coax Lam out of hiding with) into the front parlour, where there was a thick rug and some chaises set up before a crackling fire so that they could relax before bed.  They were sitting on either side of the chess board, on the rug before the fireplace, sipping their drinks, nibbling their sweet treats and attempting to figure out how to play the very noble game of chess - or at least, Matthew was.

He wasn\'t entirely sure of all the rules, but he was doing his best to learn as he played, trying to keep his mind focussed on the game.  It kept wandering, though.  He\'d bathed before dinner and was now only wearing a pair of long pants, his hair out and fanned around his fair face.  This outfit was fine so close to the cheerful fire, but he knew he\'d regret it when the time came to move upstairs to bed.  He was also taken with the way the firelight played across Rico\'s features and couldn\'t help his gaze lowering to take in the rest of his body too, every now and then.

The silence began to seem oppressive, because Rico seemed to take a huge amount of time debating each move, which left Matthew alone with his thoughts.  The Greek didn\'t seem to mind that his companion\'s gaze drifted off the board and frequently over to him, eyeing him off curiously, but since his thoughts were becoming more and more inappropriate, he felt compelled to speak.  "So," he began without preamble, not entirely sure what he was going to say until it was out of his mouth, "have you found anyone decent to distract you away from Kysis yet?"  He blinked as he finished talking, finding himself impertinent and surprised that he\'d ask such a leading question.  It was really none of his business.

“Hmm?” Rico looked up from the chess-board, noticing Matthew’s eyes were upon him again.  It had been happening a lot, like with that kiss Matthew was suddenly aware of the world.  Rico had noticed it, and played with it in return.  Though he apologized for bumping into Matthew or brushing against him, Rico really wasn’t.  He had done most of them intentionally, relishing in the blush that would take Matthew’s face.

The winks were just icing on the cake.  Rico liked it when he made Matthew’s thought process melt and go to jibberish, which it had been a lot lately.  This chess game had been rather silent, since Rico was concentrating (he was used to playing Kysis and dying almost instantly) on the moves and Matthew was concentrating who knew where.  It obviously was not the game.  Rico saw a line in which he could get a check mate in three moves.

“No.” The answer was plain, Rico’s gaze lingering on Matthew before he looked down again, moving the bishop diagonally two black squares.  Then he looked up again, stretching in the warm air.  Actually, it was rather warm.  Matthew had the right idea, being shirtless so close to the fire.  However, Rico was already wearing a shirt, so he did not take it off…

Yet.  If he kept feeling so damn warm he would have to take it off.  The hot chocolate was not helping, just keeping him superheated.

“Have you found anyone?”

Rico smiled charmingly, curious if Matthew had found anyone.  The once closed off servant now seemed different, though Rico was not exactly sure as to how.  Rico was curious.  And looked a bit pouting as he asked, eyes locked with Matthew’s.  This was far more interesting than the chess game.

Matthew blushed furiously and hastily lifted his cup to his mouth to drink.  "No," he mumbled before he swallowed some of the delicious liquid.  He lingered over the mouthful, staring at the blurry image of the cup just beyond his nose instead of looking at Rico, but there was only so long he could hold that position before it looked strange.

He felt he was fairly collected once he lowered the beverage once more, telling himself that he had to do better when chatting with his housemate, he always ended up swallowing his tongue and moving away.  Words did not come as silkily to him as they did the bard.

"But I\'m not looking," he added, giving a nonchalant shrug and running a hand through his hair so that the blonde strands glinted in the firelight.  His hand came to rest upon his raised thigh once that was done, and he looked at Rico as levelly as he could.  "You are, remember?"

Rico watched him closely, wanting to catch every little reaction possible.  He wanted to know what was going on in Matthew\'s head and what the hades had changed!!!  There had to be something.  Rico was sure of it, he just was not sure how to get out that information.  Grilling him would not do the trick.  Too many questions just made Matthew back off.  Why did he have to be so shy?

Being a bard, shyness was not an option.

Keeping his smile on, Rico shrugged, gaze lingering only a moment more on Matthew before looking down again.  Well, if Matthew saw the move coming, he could block it, then there would be no threat of mate, but Rico had a feeling there would not be any more moves for a little while, at least.  Oh well.  Rico was actually winning for once, too...

Rico shrugged at Matthew\'s last comment, deciding to brush it aside and go back to the way Matthew had paused and tried hiding behind his mug.  It was too obvious a pause to ignore.

"Still not interested?  I mean, it felt like you at least enjoyed our kiss."

Matthew froze, looking down at the mug resting on is knee, suddenly unable to meet Rico\'s gaze.  He made it sound like... like it had been something genuine... which baffled the blonde.  He had to clear his throat before he could manage to speak.

"Yes but... that wasn\'t a real kiss."

Ah-ha!  So Matthew had enjoyed it!  He wasn\'t a lost cause!  Rico got a devilish look to his grin with that, eyes dancing with playfulness.  Now they were alone, with a fire and some food, comfortable (for the most part.  It was still too damn stuffy) and being open with one another.  The perfect framework had been set up, and Rico did not want to pass up this opportunity.

Matthew actually was corruptible.

"And if we kissed again?" Rico purposely made his voice more hushed, lower, biting his own bottom lip as he spoke. "And if it was a real kiss?  Would you still be soooo disinterested in exploring possibilities with people?" Rico purred, leaning so his right elbow was on the table they used for chest, cheek resting in his right hand.  He was leaning forward in interest, hanging on for the answer.

"Well?" His eyes were daring Matthew to answer.  Who cared about the chess game.  Rico hated the game anyway (only because he got slaughtered against Kysis).  Now this, this was a game Rico liked playing more.  It was like cat and mouse, and Rico had every intention of winning.

"I... I don\'t... " Matthew stammered, finding himself compelled to look up and meet Rico\'s gaze, despite the fact that he knew he shouldn\'t.  Dark eyes glittered across the neglected chessboard at him and he found himself bewitched by them, answering even though he knew he shouldn\'t.

He fell silent, swallowing the excessive amount of saliva that had suddenly flooded his mouth as he gave the question some thought.  "I suppose not," he eventually conceded.

Victory; Matthew was flustered, which Rico still found adorable in a way.  However, the flusteredness did not last for long, melting into an answer Rico had not exactly expected.  Well, that was good.  The mouse had some tricks up his sleeves.  Rico might have gotten bored otherwise.

With a feline grace Rico stood, making the short walk over to Matthew, sitting down again.  The smile would not leave his lips even if he tried forcing it to, Rico not bothering.  There was no need to look serious.  That might frighten Matthew.  Scaring him off now would be a big, BIG failure on Rico\'s part.  He had to try to not be frightening, though he was pushing some serious boundaries.

Boundaries were meant to be pushed.

He was seated comfortably next to Matthew now, in better view of his muscled chest, the way his tan was lit up by the fire.  Rico had to admit that Matthew actually was attractive, though he seemed rather keen to hide it most of the time.  Why hide it?  Rico did not hide his own assets.

Reaching up, Rico ran a finger along Matthew\'s jaw, lightly pulling his face and moving in for another kiss.  He did not do the test brush first this time, moving his lips straight onto Matthew\'s.  He really wanted to see (and feel) Matthew\'s reaction this time.  Would it be the same?  Or would he shy away this time?  There was only the possibility of either, and Rico was sure to enjoy whichever was thrown his direction.

Matthew\'s heart seemed to accelerate with every step Rico took towards him and his vision was swimming with nervousness and anticipation by the time their lips contacted.  He tried to reciprocate the action but he only got as far as tilting his head before complete and debilitating underconfidence overwhelmed him.

What was he doing?  He didn\'t know how to kiss people!  Not women, not men.  He would make an absolute fool of himself and Rico would realise immediately that he had no experience and likely no talent for anything romantic.  Why the charismatic Greek man was persisting with this game was beyond him, but he supposed it was amusing for him on some level.  Everything Rico did seemed to be about entertainment.

Well, Matthew wasn\'t like that at all.  He was completely serious and knew very suddenly that he was not able to live up to any sort of expectations here, with this kiss.  Somehow, his lips had responded but their movements felt sloppy and wild to him; he was kissing back hungrily but without training he didn\'t understand the difference between raw enthusiasm and tactless slobbering.

Fear of crossing the line into the latter category had him tearing his lips away almost as quickly as they\'d engaged with Rico\'s.  "Sorry," he whispered, his chest heaving as he looked down at his lap, panting as if he\'d just run through the city.

Rico was met by enthusiasm and want, his having to concentrate not to be confused and move away.  It was obvious Matthew had not kissed much, but Rico did not mind.  In fact, most of his kisses had been with unexperienced people, the most memorable of whom was Kysis.

As if by some strange twist of fate, Matthew had to move away quickly the moment Kysis came to mind.  Damnit.  Rico was about to kick himself mentally when he heard the meek sorry and suddenly what just happened came into sharp focus, a different focus than he had seen it before.

It was obvious from that kiss that Matthew wanted something from a person outside of himself, that could be read as plain as day.  However, that nervousness was welling it up.  The Love Doctor in Rico diagnosed the problem immediately.  Matthew, as a virgin, was scared.  It was too be expected.... in everyone, but Rico apparently.  Rico had never suffered first time jitters.  Perhaps it was his charisma and confidence which drove Rico on so easily, but Matthew obviously did not have much of either of those.

So....

"You know..." Rico paused, considering.  He had to handle this delicately.  Those with jitters were fragile and had to be treated like glass baubles. "Don\'t apologize.  I wanted it too."

It was a simple statement, one that Rico hoped would get Matthew to come back out of his shell.  If Matthew played avoidance again for another stint, Rico knew he would lose interest.  Rico had a short attention span for such things.  Now was the only time.

Matthew frowned, glancing up at Rico through his lashes in as close to a reprimanding manner as he was capable.  His lips pressed together briefly, as he bit back an instinctive comment, but when he tried to say something else that was his usual demure fare, it sneakily came out anyway, with no pre-planning from his brain.

"Not sorry for kissing you, sorry for being bad at it," he corrected indignantly.

Definitely worried about pretenses and such, something Rico really could not stand.  Being inexperienced was not something to be ashamed of!  Rico wanted to shout that out and shake Matthew, but that definitely would scare the poor man out of his wits and ruin the whole night.  The young Retainer was thinking about his moves more here than he had been at the chess game, which was not surprising for him.  Tactics games were not his thing.

Delicate.  Rico kept having to repeat the word to himself, remind himself to be nice.  Anything biting now would probably crumble the situation.

Rico gently rubbed Matthew’s chin, since his hand and fingers were still there.  It was a good way to think about things, that movement allowing him to center his thoughts better.  After just a few moments of that contact Rico knew what he should say. “You aren’t bad at it, you’re just nervous.  Don’t be.”  Rico let his hand trail back, brushing Matthew’s ear before coming to toy lightly with the hair at the nape of his neck.  Rico liked blonds, so that was one strike for Matthew.

“Maybe you can even practice on me a little?” Rico gave a little laugh at that.  He had used a similar line to that before, with Kysis, years ago.  It had worked with Kysis, but that was an entirely different situation.  Matthew was a completely different person.  Rico said that suggestion playfully, though if Matthew actually wanted to, that would be fine, too.  It was something to keep him distracted from Kysis, at least.

Blue eyes shifted upward to look through feathery lashes as that hand softly caressed his chin, finding the gesture inspired a surreality that was unexpected.  Matthew had barely ever been touched, let alone gently like that, and it made him dizzy.  He found himself quite transfixed by Rico as he spoke, staring at his lips as he offered to let Matthew learn with him.

They were very full, very appealing lips.  Matthew blinked, wondering what he was thinking, how he\'d come to this.  It had been brewing in the back of his mind for a couple of weeks, it was true, but he\'d resigned himself to fantasising, not reality.  Now that it had come about, it was difficult to believe and even harder to act upon.

"Okay," he said quietly and then, because he didn\'t have the guts to make the move and he wanted Rico to do that part for him, he added: "I\'d like that."

Well, it seemed he had figured out Matthew.  Rico listened to the meek, submissive answer, wondering if the servant would ever have an initiative of his own.  It seemed like Matthew rarely had the guts to do something on his own, no matter how mundane it was.  No wonder he had not kissed much!  That took having a bold bone in one\'s body, and it didn\'t seem like Matthew had a single one!

Rico kept threading his fingers into that clean, blond hair, twirling it and rubbing it.  Keeping his hand occupied kept his mind from running off in a million different, unrelated directions.  Rico had terrible concentration.  He always had.  It was good that Rico had found a way to "distract" himself into paying attention.

It was now time for lesson number one.

"Relax and slow down.  Rushing through a kiss never ends up fun."  Rico gave little squeezes to the back of Matthew\'s neck, trying to feel if the muscles there were tense, and if they were, release some of that tension.  For Rico, this whole thing was fun.  He enjoyed knowing that he held Matthew\'s further development in his hands, and it could go any way he decided to throw it.  "So kiss me and don\'t be nervous."

Matthew took a deep breath, finding that the hand at the back of his neck was relaxing him a great deal.  It even caused his eyelids to droop a little, and he leaned in against Rico quite naturally, allowing the bard\'s words to resonate through his head.  If he was supposed to get through this without being nervous... well, that was easier said than done, but he could at least try initiating some contact.  Despite the butterflies hammering in his chest and the squirrels somersaulting in his belly, he did want to learn to kiss and he really wanted it to be Rico.

He just had to let himself follow his desire

Ha!  Easier said than done

and do what he felt to be right.

For a little while, that was simply adjusting to the feel of another person\'s face up against his.  He nuzzled in against Rico, brushing cheek to cheek, breathing his scent and feeling breath against his skin.  Thankfully, it calmed him, enough that he could close his eyes and simply surrender to the sensations.

When he was ready, he tilted his head and pressed his lips forward, flinching minutely as a tingle of awareness shot through them, and a shiver followed that.  It brought bumps to his chest and back, puckering the small nubs of his nipples and causing a wave of utmost delight to wash through him.  It convinced him that he actually enjoyed kissing, and emboldened him.  He tipped his head back and forth and parted his lips slightly, exploring the feel of each of Rico\'s between and against his.  At some point he\'d put his chocolate mug up onto the table, before pulling his hands demurely back in his lap, but he was hardly aware of anything besides his mouth and what it was currently connected to.
