My new Sugar Gliders!

Today was a very exciting day for me! The sugar Glider babies I`ve been waiting for were finally ready to come home! They are SOOO adorable, that I just had to share.

I`ll do my best to answer questions, for those who care to ask. hehe, members from Australia are probably better suited to answer though as these are a local native of theirs.

(Will post better pictures as the gliders adapt. They were still getting used to their new cage today)

This is the male (OOP date: Jan 31 - that stands for \'out of pouch\'. It`s like their birthday). His name is Tank...


Here is the female (OOP date: Feb 11). Her name is Mocha...


And here they are together, checking out their new home...

*Gushes* I know it! And super smart too! Also, did you know that gliders will live up to 15-16 years!?

Some new pictures I just took between 4am this morning and 12 noon.

And this one was taken just a few moments ago. Tank emerged from he and Mocha`s sleeping pouch to eat, pee and drink (in that order), then went immediatly back into the fleecey goodness of their \'home\'...


Just so you get a rough idea of size, both gliders fit quite comfortably in one of my palms at the moment. When fully grown, one will easily fill that same hand.

Ack! Double post, but I wanted to share this compilation I created earlier today with the forum!

Please keep in mind, the clips in this movie were recorded using a very old 3.2 MP digital camera - so the picture quality isn`t exactly fabulous. But you`ll get the general idea! For those of you who have computer speakers, it might be pleasant to turn them on now too.

I didn\'t know that Sugar Gliders could be sold as pets!

They are so small and cute! I have some Ring Tails in the backyard and boy, do they make a racket. They love to run up and down the roof... haha.

Heres the latest video. It features Tank - who seems to be bonding more with me (Mocha taking favorites with Troy) - feeding in my hand. This was actually the second time he`s crawled into my palm since we got them and only the first time I was able to pull him all the way out of the cage without using his bonding pouch!

Thats one of my favorite videos too.  Here are a couple new ones.

Mocha has recently taken to spazing out (playing) the instant she wakes up - running all around the cage and jumping from wall to wall. We take the pouches and wheel out during those moments to let her really stretch her legs (Tank was in my lap snuggling at the time). In order to capture her in all her energetic entirety, the camera was kept at a distance, so again - please excuse the picture quality.

LOL! They are very \'eatable\'! And they get friendlier every day!

When I got home from work, I had Tank out in my hoodie pocket for the better portion of two hours. He poked his head out every once in a while just to look up at me. hehe, heres the video... enjoy!

You\'ll have to let me know how they work out as pets! I\'m off to college soon and I\'m starting to think about what kind of animal I could bring with me... So please, give me news as it comes! ^^

Initially, they take some time to solidify a strong bond with, but after that - they love to go everywhere with you! Might make an interesting school pet...

Oh, so you can really bring them around? I was wondering how mine would like driving and house visits, if I got one. ^^; I know I\'d love the company! It\'s really nice to hear that you can do those kinds of things with one, though. I definitely wouldn\'t mind taking the time to form that bond.

((I wonder if my teachers would let me bring it to class XD))

As I said before, the bonding process does takes a while, but once they have - they can almost literally ride around with you most every where you go. They are nocturnal, so they spend a vast majority of the day sleeping. I haven`t tried this yet, but I`ve heard of some owners, bringing their gliders with them to both work and school. The little cuties just sleep the day away in a pocket or a hood. I wouldn`t reccomend with every glider however. Each is different.

The funniest thing happened with the gliders tonight! I discovered that they absolutely LOVE playing with my cats feathered ball!!! Here is footage of Tank enjoying the feline toy. The sound \'thud\' as he jumps at it from across the cage is particularly funny!
