Ari (Sacramentum)
« on: February 09, 2009, 01:02:51 PM »
Name: Ari
Age [Appearance]: Early thirties
Age [Actual]: 1508
Gender: Male
Species: Vampire

Hair: Ari has lengthy, nearly dark blonde, nearly brown, hair that has a natural flip to it. It rests on his shoulders, but near the center of the back it is long enough that it covers the back of his neck completely. His bangs fall down to his chin and despite what many people would think, they have a peculiar way of never really moving in front of his face. Ari sometimes puts his hair into a ponytail if he feels that he may engage in any strenuous activities in order to keep his hair from his face which he finds to be extremely bothersome. He keeps his hair clean as possible, though if he does not wash it daily it has a habit of getting greasy really quickly.

Eyes: Ari’s eyes were dark blue, but as he developed his mind abilities, they slowly faded to a pale gray. Why this happened, he was never certain.

Frame: Ari stands about six-foot-one, and weighs nearly two hundred-fifty pounds though he may not look it. He is of a slender nature, though not so much that he looks weak; it’s a slender-with-strength appearance. His body is well toned and muscled, and despite this, he never likes to show off. It had taken years of hard work prior to becoming a vampire to gain the body he had, and even after changing. Ari has, over time, developed a very aristocratic appearance with prominent, flawless features, though he is not overly attractive, he can certainly capture the eye of some. His skin is quite pale, which is contrasted rather nicely by his dark blonde hair.

Tattoos/distinguishing marks: Ari had the marks of anyone of his era; those of hard labor, and even some battle wounds that he had sustained, but nothing serious. He has a large patch of badly healed skin on his lower back that occurred after an arrow took him in the back, and after pulling the arrow forth they had attempted to cauterize it and had successfully scorched most of his back in the process. He also has one long scar along his hair line on the right side of his forehead. It is not very visible since it is hidden behind his lengthy bangs.

Personality:  Ari has been called serious by some, and in truth he is. He takes things seriously, especially when it comes to learning things, or challenges. He rises to meet them full strength and rarely backs down or quits and always gives his all, and he always loves a good challenge. He also has a serious front, he takes things seriously, or at least acts like he does even if he doesn’t.

Ari is sensitive towards others, and himself. He always has a bit of compassion for others that he developed over time. He never really figured out why he is always drawn to help others when he can, but he gave up trying to understand it when he came to the conclusion that he enjoyed it, and that any delving might ruin that for him.

He is also soft and gentle, not a brawler, but when he does fight, it is with finesse and never very violently, thus he prefers dueling by fencing or something of the sort to embrace this more gentle side, though the act of killing is not something he enjoys, it is something that he believes must sometimes be done to preserve others, and has taken the lives of others on several occasions.

Ari’s intensive search for knowledge beyond that of any other mortal has led him into the great founts of wisdom and intelligence that he seems to carry with him everywhere. Countless years that he spent buried in books and projects to better understand the world have left Ari with a singular intelligence, one that seems to have an answer for anything, and he is oddly disturbed when he does not have an answer for a logical question.

He works hard at everything, and is very open-minded which he feels is a trait that everyone should have. Ari believes that if you cannot listen to others and take into account what they feel, you are less than human and your opinion should mean less to the world than theirs did to you. Thus, he highly regards the opinions of others.

Despite his kind and fluffy exterior, Ari has a deep sense of vengeance about him. Wrong him and he never forgets. He will stand there, take what you throw at him, bundle it up, take it down with him, hold it inside, and when he feels the time is right, he acts swiftly, silently, and with a singular, deadly purpose that makes him a terrible enemy to have. Despite his desire for vengeance on those who wrong him, he controls himself, often letting it build up to the point where he hates the world and everyone in it, though he never shows it, he can become extremely agitated and spiteful of everyone and everything.

History: Ari was born when killing your neighbor wasn’t that unusual if you wanted to survive. His village, like many others, was near the coast and he spent a lot of time on the sea. He had figured he would have spent his entire life there, and for the most part, had. From age ten to twenty eight he sailed with his family, fishing, raiding, plundering, and surviving, but it had never come without its prices, and once he had paid dearly, the life of his father had been taken by a warrior whom Ari later slew to avenge his father. It had taken his toll on him, and his life as a mere sea-farer was over.

He needed something new in his life, and he realized that staying where he was would not be the right choice, so he set off. Set off in the direction of the Holy Roman Empire, to Constantinople, and to a future that not even he could have expected.

Along the way, Ari encountered many hardships, one of which was a Roman Auxiliary unit. He had been craving adventure and excitement, and what better way to get both than to join the army? And so he did… and soon regretted it. After a while chasing bandits and such, they met a fierce resistance of rebels, and during the fighting Ari was badly wounded. He was rushed to a nearby field hospital where his wounds were attended and later, he was released, realizing that maybe that life wasn’t for him.

His dreams of going to visit one of the greatest empires in the world was smashed, and he realized that truly, he did miss the strange life he had back in Frisia, and Ari returned home, albeit reluctantly. He had changed, and he knew it. His desire for excitement and adventure knocked out of him and snuffed out completely, he had become calm, cool, and calculated. It was different for him, and he soon found happiness in ways he never knew he could before, and began to view the world in a different light, one that wasn’t as boring as the old had been.

Settling once more in East Frisia near the coast, he established himself as a captain on a ship and set off to work fishing and trading along the coast, but when he met a very odd set of men, who enthralled him greatly, he sold his ship and joined several others as familiars to the Sacramentum. At first, he did not know if he liked what he got involved with, but later, he realized, it wasn’t that bad and found himself developing a strange bond with some of the members.

Ari had never known that one of theirs had died, and that he was so similar to that deceased member of their family, and that it was what drew them to him initially, but when they offered the opportunity to join their family, Ari accepted eagerly enough. Once inducted, he solidified himself in his newer, changed personality, and agreed that he enjoyed who he had become and even a thousand years later, he never changed.

When they moved to Gaul, Ari went with, naturally, and he began learning. He knew he’d live forever unless someone found some reason to kill him, but he decided he needed something to fill that time, and his greatest hobby was one of learning. For he figured, one can never stop learning. He pushed himself to lengths that he never thought he could, straining to learn every detail of everything he came across, and over time, he began to work at developing the mind abilities of vampires. These mental attributes captivated him, and in secret, he worked at them long and hard.

During this time, he had developed a brotherly bond with Valerius that he never figured he would. It was strange to Ari, but he and Valerius became steadfast friends and stuck together through most things, but when Marcelo came along, Ari knew something was wrong about him, but kept silent, knowing that it was his new brother’s choice and not his to deal with Marcelo.

As time passed, Ari watched worriedly as Marcelo developed into a negative, brooding person, and the day when they brought the news that Marcelo had killed Valerius, Ari’s new, calm resolve broke and he stood side by side with Charon as his adoptive grandfather tore the head from Marcelo’s body. Without Valerius, Ari’s life seemed boring and dull again, and he immersed himself deeper in his learning, and when he was not, he would spend his spare time with Charon, attempting to deepen the bond between them.

The death of Lucius was not lost on Ari. He had felt it when he died, as he had when the others had too. It was as if his intensive mind training had deepened his bond with the others, and when Lucius gave up, Ari could have sworn he felt the sweltering heat on his own body as Lucius turned to dust in the rays of the sun. He moved on, never discussing it with anyone.

Despite the others siring fledglings and such, Ari had never felt that sort of connection with anyone. He did not understand it, but his heart told him that he would know the one he sought when he saw them. He would search as long as it took, and no matter what, he would find that person. Even the urgings of Charon, someone that Ari admired more than anyone, and respected beyond comprehension could not sway him. He was steadfast in this, and he would not change his mind for anything.

Oddly enough, in 1662 Ari came across a man named Royce, and instantly chaperoned him, took him in, and knew that he found the one he had been looking for. He contemplated siring him, but he did not want Royce to go through it by himself, so he turned to Felcia, who, aside from Charon, was one of his nearest friends, night upon begging her to find a fledgling to pair with Royce, and with the insisting of Charon, and Felicia’s agreement, Royce was sired along with Hugh. The two fought a lot, but Ari ignored it, content that he finally had his fledgling.

Once more as time passed, Ari watched as things went by, observing and keeping his eyes on the lookout. Aside from Charon, he was the head of Sacramentum business with any outsiders, taking into account that Charon was not much of one to be considered public friendly in appearance. When the tid-bit with Leoric, Jeanne, and Taylor had transpired Ari suspected there was more to it than some, but when he could find no valid proof, he dismissed it and figured it was nothing to worry about, and once more kept to silence.

Ari looks forward to the future, as always, as a way to experience the unknown, and reflect upon the past. Things were going well for him, at least as he saw it.

Awareness of Supernaturals:
As aware as he feels he needs to be. He knows enough to identify the basics he may come across, and can usually figure out what it is he may encounter that he doesn’t already know. He can tell when another vampire is nearby without any problem.

Occupation/Job: Sacramentum member/Owner of several large wineries and vineyards that he attained in the late 1500’s and early 1600’s.

Interesting Facts/Quirks: Ari had favored the fifteen and sixteen hundreds when dueling and fencing had become exceptionally popular. The entire life of a “gentleman” of the time captivated him and he found himself pulled in. He had formed estates, relationships, political groups, and had partaken in whatever caught his eye. Fencing and swordplay had been one of his favorites. He had already been quite the fighter before, learning how to wield a sword while he had still be among the truly living to protect himself, the new style of combat had enticed him, and he spent many years perfecting his own style in secret and had even won several wineries and vineyards in these duels.

Hobby/Hobbies: He enjoys reading, music, fencing, occasionally dabbling in politics, golf, and at times, soccer. Ari had also enjoyed fishing at one point in time, but it lost its interest and he no longer does. He is still attempting new things and finds a new hobby from time to time. The newest… crocheting.

Likes: Those that take care of themselves; he respects people who can make decisions and act on them without the assistance of others, but he also enjoys helping those who can’t, and he finds an odd pleasure in doing good for others. Ari enjoys intelligent conversions, reading, writing, leisurely sports like golf, fencing, and Italian food as well as seafood, especially shrimp and crab. Ari has a certain affinity for fine wine.

Dislikes: Ari dislikes people who are out there to hurt others and especially those that remind him of Marcelo. He has been known to explode on people at times, often triggered by Taylor or some other person who has the ability to bother even the most calm and reserved people alive. He dislikes spicy foods, oysters, Germans, beer, unnecessary violence, heavy contact sports or those that greatly exert the player. Ari hates bruises for whatever reason; he finds them horridly repulsive, and he greatly despises slutty women and whores. Where he came across that hatred, no one knows, even him.

Strength: Ari has spent a thousand years and more perfecting the use of his mind. He is intelligent and his mental abilities of a vampire have been honed to perfection. Few know of this ability since he rarely openly displays it. Ari is a master of fencing, having spent nearly four hundred years at it; he has had much practice and even developed his own style. Ari is calm and calculating. Often taking a look at a situation before diving into it, and this often gives him an edge over most people.

Weakness/Flaw: Ari is soft, and it is maybe his biggest downfall. He is all around well set for any problem, but the instant he is put into a situation where violence is involved or any sort of harsh sentence, he can panic or even worry enough to make bad decisions. His anger wells up inside of him, and he never lets it out except in the most extreme cases. It makes him, quite literally, a walking time-bomb. This anger could come out at any time, and even Ari himself might be surprised at it, and this might put him off edge and get him into a lot of trouble.
