Ok. So I had an idea last night and I wanted to see what you all thought about it.
I want to create a character soon, but I have no idea where to put him. As of right now he could very easily fit into Oberon or HalfLight, and I could fuss around with him a little bit to fit him into Infusco. My thought was what if we crossed forums with our characters? For instance if I were to play Damien in Infusco as a vampire (as he is now) but also in Oberon as a nobleman (which very easily fits into his profile and ability, if you notice). That would save me from trying to figure out the differences between my characters and just change the situation and background a little bit.
I don't know if any of you are like me, but when I make a character, I like to explore the realm of possibilities (I've put Damien at an amusement park before just to figure out what he would do there, just for kicks). A lot of times when I have made characters in the past, I've tried to find variations between them so that I can pass it off for another character in another forum. I find it a little tedious to sit there and reinvent the wheel for another character in another forum.
To illustrate what I mean a little easier, I'll show you what I mean with Damien as my example.
Damien currently exists in Infusco as a 900+ vampire. He's aloof, sad, Hamlet-esque, a bit awkward. He's got silver/blue eyes, dark brown hair, tallish, lean, athletic, looks 19, etc. etc.
The Damien that I would propose for Oberon would be a play on the original. He'd be human, would still look the exact same way (which would cut down on trying to figure out what picture I'd need to find, because anyone who's been following Damien, he's gone through at least three or four pictures because I couldn't find anything remotely close to what I imagined him). He would act similarly (would probably be a bit less depressed because he wouldn't be so f#%*ing old), and have a similar background as he does now. But I would be able to play him out in a whole new dimension, vary his plot a little bit. Stretch his legs, so to speak.
Lately CK and I have taken the liberty to turn all of our characters human to explore their humanity and personalities better, to understand our children better. We've been making a lot of progress with this and it's actually really fun and interesting (Sonya, CK's character, got pregnant by Nikolai. Hahahahaha.). It's great practice for us as writers and it's actually helped us work out a lot of kinks in our storyline with our characters.
So what I'm proposing is that we take the character that we want to play around with and use them in other parts of the site, (i.e. Damien in Oberon, which c'mon, sounds like an amazing idea, right?) sort of like what we've already done with Alternative Infusco and Existential Forums in all the boards. This way we aren't limited to one world when we have a character that meets the concept proposed by the other boards as well.
Of course there would be some damage control happening. For instance the Damien in Oberon and the Damien in Infusco would be completely separate and non-interchangeable. The thread history of Damien Infusco wouldn't carry over to Oberon and vise versa. Also there would be no blending of Forums to create a thread history (meaning, you can't let the the events of Oberon impact the decisions and actions of Infusco Damien, and likewise you can't post thread links for Oberon Damien in Infusco Damien's profile page. That would be way too confusing and hard to follow).
What I am saying is that you make two slightly different characters which fit the RPC standards of writing in each forum and play them as if they are same person in different environments. It would still require a Character sheet that helps you direct where your head's at on a character, but I wouldn't have to reinvent a Damien character (find a new picture, get another personality, find new strengths and weaknesses, etc) just to use him in a different setting and a different environment altogether. The difference in setting and subtle changes should be enough to separate him from the former Damien.
And I know that was long-winded way of saying it, but I really think it could be fun. We could get more activity in all of the forums (especially because I'd be throwing Damien as well as a new character into Oberon ASAP) because we don't have to reinvent anything at all! Tell me what you think. I'm really into the idea.
