Tom (Thomas) King
« on: August 26, 2012, 02:57:54 PM »

Name: Thomas "Tom" King
Age [appearance]: Late Teens/Early Adulthood
Age [actual]: 20
Gender: Male
Species: Human

Hair: Tight black cornrows, turning into long and thick braids in the back; previously he had long brown and blond dreadlocks.
Eyes: Dark brown
Frame: 5'10 and muscular, though not overly so. His body itself is fairly tan since he enjoys sunbathing. He weighs about 160 pounds, which is fairly average, especially considering his frame.

Tattoos/Distinguishing Marks: Two moles on his neck, as well as a lip ring that he never takes out. His ears are also pierced, though he doesn't wear anything in them most of the time.

Personality: He has a rather detached and formal attitude towards almost everyone, though a few people get to see his warm side, such as his brother and lover. He has a lower general mental capacity and has a hard time solving abstract problems. He tends to be mature and face reality calmly in most cases, trying not to get easily upset over the little things. Instead, he bottles them up inside and builds resentment against whoever or whatever caused those emotions in the first place.

He can be fairly bossy when he thinks he has the upper hand, but the second there is opposition, he becomes far more accommodating. He is rather serious and prudent, as well as being dutiful and rule-conscious. When given a way out of doing something he doesn't like, however, he won't hesitate to take it.

Socially, he is bold and venturesome, often times to the point of being blunt and insulting. He's a self-reliant utilitarian, though he's finally daring to dream big. He doesn't understand more art, though he can appreciate the blending of the colors most of the time. He is also a fairly vigilant and skeptical person, though in the face of overwhelming proof, he's change his mind.

He is grounded and practical, often not getting the small differences that make things more valuable or more wanted. He is also fairly private about his life and specifically doesn't disclose more than he thinks he should. He worries quite a lot about numerous things, usually other people's reaction to him, though he keeps it bottled up inside as best he can. He tends to take out his frustrations by cleaning, often resulting in a neat and organized appearance. He is attached to the familiar and has conservative ideas, often afraid of change.

He is very resourceful and self-sufficient, as well as being a perfectionist. His cleaning and tidying habits are nearly compulsive, though he isn't quite there yet. He's a very tense perfect, though many people don't see the tension there…many see what they want to see.

History: Tom was born just one year before his brother Bill in a city on the west coast of America about twenty years ago. The two brothers grew up happily enough until Tom's ninth year, when their parents divorced. They continued to live with their mother so that they could remain together and  attend the same school without their lives being too upset.

Their father, however, went on the path of self-destruction. He moved to this city and quickly took up drinking. He appeared more haggard every time they visited, more defeated. His once-neat appearance took on an unkempt one, his brown hair turning to gray rather quickly. By the time he was forty, he had the appearance of a sixty-year-old.

When the brothers were in their early teens, their mother was killed in a car accident on the way home from work. The boys were sent to live with their father, their only remaining relative with the exception of an eccentric uncle that lived on the other side of the country. Tom and Bill quickly saw the need to begin taking care of themselves, since their father seemed incapable of doing so. Taking his role as the older brother rather seriously, Tom tried his best to take care of his brother in every way possible. This led to rules and restrictions that a parent might normally place on a child; since they were brothers, however, that bond turned into a tangled mess of resentment, love and confusion.

By the time Bill had turned seventeen, he and his brother had both come out to their father in an anticlimactic bout of bravery; their father simply didn't care for them, and that was that. More often than not, Tom played the role of the parent, to both Bill and their alcoholic father. They did not have a lot of money, though their father managed to hold as a janitor in one of the office buildings downtown.

Over the years, Tom's resentment towards his father and brother built up, causing him to act out in small ways that might almost have been unnoticeable. He dropped the jock-type friends he had, picking up smoking and a new set of friends, instead. These friends stayed out late at night, most not bothering to even show up to school during the day. While Tom craved being accepted by these people, the few that actually cared about him, he continued to support his father and brother as best he could.

He and Bill were very close as children and he truly did treasure that bond, which is why he stayed. It certainly helped that he had nowhere else to go, and no aspirations towards the future. With nothing to look forward to except the hell of trying to take care of his family by himself (or what felt like it to a teenager), Tom got a dead-end job stocking shelves at a supermarket during third shift.

It was there that he met Georg, who forever changed his life. Georg would come in at all times of the night to go shopping, always stopping to talk to Tom as he did. It wasn't long before Tom found himself on a date with the handsome older man, and then another and another, until he found himself in an actual relationship for possibly the first time in his life. Georg made him feel as though he could handle the stress in his life, and he preferred it that way.

Two years into their relationship, Tom found out what Georg really was. It explained, of course, why he had never seen his boyfriend eat and why he had never seen him until after dark. It explained why Georg never stayed the night and why no one ever messed with him (at least as far as Tom could tell). But it scared him, as well.

It had been one of their mutual friends, a human by the name of Andi that had given the secret away. He himself was a vampire groupie and had rapidly grown jealous of the way Tom and Georg seemed to be intertwined. It almost worked.

Tom ran home to his brother, intent on packing their things and getting out of the city. He felt betrayed and terrified of his own boyfriend, though Georg had never once fed from him, wanting to keep his secret from Tom and unwilling to make mistakes concerning it. Bill, however, refused to believe his brother, claiming that there was an actual explanation that did not include supernatural powers. He urged Tom to stay, given the fact that they wouldn't get very far with the little money they did have, and even then they would have nowhere to go. Tom agreed and stopped packing.

It was the middle of the night when Tom got the first text from Georg, promising a reasonable explanation if only Tom were to come meet him. Once his brother was asleep, Tom agreed, sneaking out of the house to see the only person in his world that caused him joy. His relationship with his brother had become strained and tense, at least in his eyes, as his brother relied on him more and more as the years passed. To Tom, every moment with Georg was a joy, and if there was a reasonable explanation, he wanted to hear it.

He met Georg in a park, confronting him about what Andi had told him. After some initial hesitation, his lover admitted the truth, figuring that since he hadn't been the one to tell Tom about vampires, he couldn't be blamed for Tom finding out (hopefully). It was then that Georg made him an offer, since he knew the truth.

Georg wanted his boyfriend to live with him, and eventually become a vampire. While Tom had initially been terrified of the thought of vampires existing, the long evening with Georg had settled his fears. In Georg, Tom saw a chance for a new life, one without his brother or his father pulling him down. His boyfriend had offered him the world, and Tom took it…or wanted to, at least.

Tom did accompany him back to his domicile that night, fully intending to return and explain things to his brother. Upon further thought and as days passed, however, Tom began to realize that he truly had no intention of returning. While he did feel guilty for leaving his brother in a spot, he refused to be dragged down into the circle of hell that he was so used to living in. He fully intended to go back for his brother eventually and explain things to him…but that would inevitably involve his return, which he simply didn't want, afraid that his brother would convince him to come back.

Since he quit his dead-end job, he has begun to take online college classes to earn his degree, hoping to one day get a decent job. He and Georg had gone to the Oligarchy the night after he 'disappeared' and registered as a couple, their names and address recorded in the Oligarchy's records. Of course, that was over a year ago, and Tom hasn't looked back since, still living with Georg.

Awareness of Supernaturals: Obviously, he knows about vampires. He's slowly learning as much as he can, with the promise of one day being one, whenever Georg sees fit (and the Oligarchy approves).  He doesn't know a whole lot (if anything) about any other types of supernatural creatures, though he knows that vampires aren't the only ones out there.
