Carry on Spying
« on: April 10, 2019, 04:20:06 AM »
(Reserved for pinkroses)

Maria had been ranting and raving about a place called Sanctuary in the West, a cute little café and they had the best coffee she tasted in a long time. One of the few things Maria could drink as a thin-blood and not vomit, but it had to black, no sugar or cream. While Sam could not drink coffee she still enjoyed the smell, preferring a dark roast due to its powerful aroma. It had been her day off from the Academy and since Maria took over the as the Keeper, Sam had a little more free time. Jake had been busy trying to settle the unrest in the West, there had been rumours circulating that needed attention. While that would have been enough to deter most people away Sam had a Nosferatu for an escort. Everyone thought Jake was stupid to let Sam travel alone, she kept that secret to herself. A small smile on her lips as she entered through the gates, the Nosferatu would not accompany Sam. She would be alone in the café, they had agreed on a few hours before she would exit again.

Once Sam got inside the café she spotted that the far left had a fireplace, no one was sitting in the area. Most of them remained at the back close to the serving counter, that suited Sam just fine. Calmly strolling towards the counter and awaiting her place in line which did not take long, surprised at their efficiency considering the help wanted sign displayed. Sam ordered an exotic dark roast coffee, black, with no lid and a sleeve for the cup. It didn't take long for her to receive her order, giving them a generous tip and a smile before sauntering off to a table.

Sam wore a dark blue razor back tank top, accompanied with a black leather jacket. Placing it on the back of her chair, her legs swinging beneath the table. Her usual attire of dark blue jeans and white shoes, she looked as if she didn't have a care in the world. The warmth of the fire felt spectacular on her skin, wrapping her hands around her cup giving it a short sniff. Earthly tones largely present in the scent and it made her mouth water a little, how many nights did this sweet nectar get her through university? Too many to count, looking at coffee as an old friend before setting down the cup and pulling out her phone.

Nothing was new for the time being and she relaxed at the thought, preparing the lesson plans for the Academy had been a daunting task. She put such meticulous effort and care into her lessons Sam had forgotten to take time for herself. Tonight she hoped to escape that reality for a few hours, no emails, no planning and certainly no politics. If someone were to recognize Sam and approach, she would not be rude and turn them away. Scrolling through her apps before settling on a game called Last Day on Earth: Survival. A zombie game that was shown to her by one of her students and she became obsessed with the game, a slight scowl appeared on her lips. She got raided again! By her own student! Recognizing the gamer tag in her notifications and it was game on now.

Alena had been roaming the city over the past few weeks, meeting other demons, sending them to the Block, getting the lay of the land around the White Rabbit, feeling out where their electricity supplies were and making use of the transport they provided to her. She’d been back to see Zeus a couple of times, occasionally giving news to others who worked for him. She was pleased to see a couple of demons she’d spoken to on the streets had made their way there and were making themselves useful.

The demon had watched as Sam’s escort let her go into the coffee shop alone, then waited a couple of minutes before following inside. Alena was still wearing the t-shirt she’d stolen from Zeus, although another demon at the Block had convinced her on one of her visits to let them wash her clothing and now it smelt fresh and slightly flowery which was a nice change. Her too-big leather jacket hung from her arm and her dark red hair hung loose down her back, frizzy and unkempt, but it suited her.

She joined the queue, as Sam had done and ordered a coffee, but when it came to paying she slipped in a card which she’d “found” and rather than entering a PIN she covered her hand (as she’d seen other people do) and let her power flow into the small machine, telling it that she’d paid. The cashier gave her a pleasant smile, oblivious to the deception and Alena gave a cheery thank you in response, accepting her coffee. She didn’t need to eat or drink, so she got a cup with a lid to make it more obvious that she wasn’t drinking it. It did smell pretty good though.

Alena turned away from the counter and her bright eyes settled on Sam. The child of the murderer.

Her face lit up with a bright smile and she approached the table, taking a seat opposite Sam without bothering to ask.

“Wow, you’re Professor Rede, aren’t you? At the Academy? I’m signing up to take your class, it looks really interesting. I’m so excited about it,” she gushed without a hint of a lie. It was interesting, how vampires managed to work their way into clans when really they were all the same blood sucking leeches.

“Oh, gosh, I’m interrupting you, sorry,” she added, pressing a hand to her lips as her pale blue eyes widened.

Sam had a wicked grin on her face as she used the C4 she had found in one of the army bunkers. Her student had steel walls at his hideout, but one she slapped that C4 on one of the walls. BOOM! Furiously raiding all his stuff and he had some rare stuff in his chests, that should fix his wagon. Flicking her fingers on the screen, running home to her base and using the materials she had collected to upgrade her own house. C4 was rare in the game and she wished she could see the look on his face when he found his most secure room broken into, it made Sam giggle.  She had saved that C4 for a long time in the game and Sam was glad she had saved it, although who knows when she would find some again in the game.

Suddenly her eyes shot up at a voice that interrupted her silence, a pale blue-eyed creature sat down at her table. Sam was not offended that the woman just invited herself to a seat at her table, many of her own students had done that and she encouraged it within reason. Sam gave the lady a smile and a friendly wave of her hand to show she was not interrupting at all.

"You can call me Sam. My class is a much more relaxed learning environment. I want my students to learn you can work and play too," addressing the lady in a chipper tone.

"So what part interested you enough to sign up? Anything in particular jump out at you?" Her hands loosely clasped together on the table, her silver eyes holding the ladies gaze.

“Sam, great, I’m Alena,” the girl said with a grin, pulling her hair over one shoulder and stroking it gently as she watched Sam. She was so happy, so full of joy, it seemed so weird after the mood of the people she’d around recently.

“Learning about all the different clans. How they differ, what sets them apart, but also what their similarities are. Like, how it all started as well. I never knew vampires had clans like that, but when I read the course description, it just leapt out at me,” she explained, her enthusiasm clear from her tone and the way her face lit up. She was glad she’d done her research, hacking into a computer in the library to get the course list and information.

“Have you been teaching long? The Academy is so new, I know, but other places?” she asked, dropping her hands to the table and folding them together, mirroring Sam’s pose.

Sam enjoyed Alena's enthusiasm as she talked about learning about the different clans, she would fit well with other students in her classroom. That was always in the back of Sams mind, that everyone got along one way or another and they could learn without prejudice. She had been bullied in school as a mortal so she knew the pain of not fitting in extremely well, she did not wish to have her students experience the same pain. Although it did make her a stronger person, in the end. This was not a struggle everyone got out alive. Suicide due to bullying was a reality in the supernatural world and Sam would have none of it in her classroom.

"No, I haven't been teaching for long maybe two years," how had the time flown.

"The Academy was my first offical teaching job when I graduated University. I've been with the Academy since the beginning," thanks to Ben's gracious chance.

“Only two years? Since you graduated? Was it like your forth or five course? I guess when you’re immortal you can do whatever you want, no matter how long it takes,” she said, tilting her head with interest.

From what she knew of Jake’s family so far, Sam wasn’t very old, but she didn’t know how old. When you could live forever then life would probably go more quickly. For a vampire 100 could be a child still. Alena knew many ancient demons and it was upsetting that her specie had such a short life-span, but she’d do what she could with it.

“What did you study there? I guess not all about the clans,” she added with a teasing grin. This was the first Supernatural school she’d heard of so she would have gathered her knowledge for this course elsewhere. From her family.

Sam giggled at Alena's comment of being able to do whatever they want, she had done this as a mortal and refused to drop out after becoming a vampire. Failing a few times over the years only to go back and try again eventually succeeding, it had taken her longer to get her Masters than others but there were no dates on her degree's. She was proud of her accomplishments.

"I studied music, literature and dance and I eventually went on to get my Masters in all three," a sheepish look on her face. Sam did not want to give the impression she was bragging.

"I came here from Canada when I was nineteen after my family was killed by a drunk driver," common knowledge among her students.

Sam was pretty much an open book when it came to her students, just like she had opened up to Ben when they first met in that small classroom at the Ward. It was to give them some sort of common ground between student and mentor, or at least a safe person to talk to about the small things. Bigger problems would be going directly to Dr. Barrow, glad that a profession of the mind was on staff now. She had not met him personally but he did a wonderful job laying out in lamens terms how a victim of sexual assault could react. Setting the stage for Sam and Jake to start the healing process together and for Sam to help Jake be a better person.

Dance and music? People could do degrees in dance and music? Well, that sounded like the biggest waste of time ever, but Alena kept those thought safely hidden away and instead looked suitably impressed with the information. She had no idea how much work it took to get a Masters, but Sam was obviously proud of it, although she was trying to hide it with that look of false modesty. How did those things qualify her to be any sort of teacher?

“Oh, wow, I’m so sorry. Having your whole family killed like that. It must have been horrible,” Alena said, sympathy crossing her face. She knew exactly what it felt like to have your family wiped out in one night, but wasn’t about to tell Sam that. At least Sam’s had been a stupid accident, not murder. She had no idea why Sam was just blurting this out though. It seemed like a weird turn to the conversation when they’d been talking about her studies.

“That was before you were turned? Is your sire like your new family? It’s all fascinating – the blood bond. Obviously it wouldn’t replace your other family, but it must help,” she said, reaching out across the table to lightly touch Sam’s hand.

Sam nodded warmly at Alena's condolences and yes it had been horrible, she never really got over the loss. She had learned how to cope better as the years went by, if only she had given that man one more drink they still be alive. It was a cruel twist in life that Sam had to live with every day but she never truly accepted it. In a way Sam felt she had unknowingly murdered her own family, accident or not. This part of the story was only known to a few in Sams life, and it was a dark reality for Sam. Much more grim than just saying your family was killed by a drunk driver, Alena's tender touch returned Sam back to the conversation.

"Jake has certainly given me the opportunity to have a chance of having a family again," Alena was right Jake couldn't replace her parents.

"As for the blood bond I'm not sure, it's all still strange and new to me. Sometimes I think it helps, but other times I feel overwhelmed feeling someone else's emotions," even after five years she was still getting use to being so emotionally close to Jake.

“New? I thought you had been one a while. You’re a teacher and everything, at an Academy,” Alena said, looking impressed at the young vampire in front of her. “How long is it since you turned? Since… Jake was it? Since Jake sired you?”

Alena fell silent as Sam described the blood bond as dozens of new questions flooded through her mind.

“I can’t even imagine,” she said softly. “Is it like they’re always there? Just in the back of your mind?” She wondered whether Jake could see out of Sam’s eyes if he wanted to. That kind of connection, it would be a lot of deal with unless you really trusted that person one hundred percent.

“You can feel his emotions? All the time? So he could feel it. I if you were excited, sad, in pain, having sex?” she said, raising an eyebrow with a teasing grin at the final question, before she gave a giggle, tossing her hair with the hand which wasn’t still lightly touching Sam’s. “Sorry, you’re going to be my teacher, that was probably inappropriate,” she said, but her fingers lightly danced over Sam’s skin and she showed no sign of pulling back.

"Yes Jake and that was about five years ago, " Alena was just a flurry of questions and that impressed Sam.

Sam was then a little shocked at Alena's forwardness and it made her lips blush red, she had never thought of Jake feeling her have sex. Oh God, that was a frightening and embarrassing thought Alena put in her head. Nope! That was enough for Sam to bottle those thoughts up and throw them into the void, she returned a grin at Alena before speaking again.

"Truth be told I did not think of the sex part. Good question to ask and do not feel bad," giving Alena a reassuring smile.

"But yes he can feel all my emotions," like Sam be having sex anytime soon.

"However, we do have some self-control over masking our emotions from one another. Jake doesn't push to know what I am feeling all the time," grateful that Jake had given her space.

Most fledglings in her clan were severely micromanaged through the bond they shared with their Sire, the curse of the Caine bloodline. Their sires could command their childer to do what they wished, to assert control while molding their definition of what the next Ventrue should be through sheer force. It was not an easy clan to be a part of and she was glad Jake had given her room to explore what type of Ventrue she wanted to become.

Alena gave a teasing smile as Sam’s skin coloured, pleased at the reaction she’d stirred in the vampire. How had she not thought about sex when she was sharing feelings with her sire? That was some of the strongest pleasurable feelings a soul could have, surely? Nothing compared to anguish and sorrow, but still pretty strong.

Maybe she hadn’t had sex since becoming a vampire? Now that would be interesting.

“Ah, I see, good that you’ve got a kind sire then. I can imagine that would get wearing, someone pushing at your mind all the time.” Alena cupped her hands around her hot coffee, lifting it to breathe in the rich scent.

“But, y’know, if you ever fancied testing yourself and that self-control when sharing your feelings with him, I’d be happy to assist,” she added, her blue eyes glinting wickedly as she pursed her lips, blowing softly into the hole of the take-away cup.

Sam busted out a gut-wrenching laugh that filled the room, that's all she needed the reputation that she slept with her students. Tears almost ran down her face and her mouth was sore from laughing so hard, that would never happen in a million years. Alena had such a dirty mind and Sam liked that in a person, taking a deep breath after her laughing spell. Her lungs actually hurt, but it felt so good to laugh, she hadn't laughed like that in a while.

"You do realize you just suggested that a teacher sleep with a student?" An arched eyebrow directed at Alena with a wicked smile of her own.

Sam would have to thank Maria later for forcing her to go out, this was turning out to be a pleasant night. Sam looked forward to Alena attending her classes and excited the Academy was to open soon.

“Yes, I know,” Alena said with a grin as she watched the vampire laugh. Alena wasn’t especially interested in having sex with Sam, but it would definitely be a good way to get closer to her and find out more information.

“Well, like I said, I’d be happy to assist, if you reconsider. Or if I decide not to take your class in the hopes of making you,” she added with a wink.

“Anyway, since I’ve already made this awkward, why don’t you tell me about some stuff you like to do when you’re not teaching?” the young demon asked, putting her drink back down on the table between them.

Sam grinned at the wink she received from Alena and this encounter to Sam was the good kind of awkward. They type of awkward you could laugh it off and continue on as if nothing happened. Sam was warming up to Alena quickly and she enjoyed Alena being so open with her questions. She would do well at the Academy and Sam was sure Alena would make lots of friends.

"I like to do random sketchings from time to time. And I like to build things with my hands when I get the chance, " wishing she had a shop to fool around in like she did back in Canada

"I also like to dance and play video games when I have time. And I love to read I really enjoy a good book," a satisfied grin on her face. Sam really did love books and a good laugh too.

"What about you Alena? What do you like to do with your spare time?" Feeling bad Sam asked so little about Alena throughout this conversation.
