His senses were on fire around her - like she'd turned the dial up to eleven. Her voice was soft yet commanding. He liked her mimicry of his question... it hadn't sounded sarcastic so much as playful.

"It's musical," he said, though it was no such thing. It reminded him of music, it made him think of such. The wood was like his guitars at home, the rough stone was like the raw depth of a song or the discomfort of a misplayed note, the metal rod which he'd initially attributed to brass instruments had become pseudo-eroticism... or passion. He looked at her long-fingered hand on the artwork and admired them. "You play," he said. The inflection was mildly accusatory, though his expression finally changed from watchful to hopeful.

He could have a meaningful conversation about music.

Observant.

"Yes,"  She smiled in a distant way, noting the subtle change in his expression.  Sonya shifted her gaze back to the sculpture.  Cold hard metal contrasting the organic warmth of wood.  The bronze playing off the color of the wood, the wood's finish calling to the smooth metal.  Harmony interrupted by the highly textured stone.  Her fingers tapped a bit more with the music along the length of the sculpture, ending with a  delicately pointed index on the metal rod.  Leisurely she drew her first two fingers around the tip, tracing a random pattern down its length and back again.

"You?"  She withdrew her hand and slowly walked back around to his side.

"Guitar," he said with a nod. His hands were rough from hard work, his fingertips calloused by strings, nails kept manicured now but long enough to pluck.

He heard the hum of an open channel and quirked his head before the announcement came over speakers, spoken with a nasal twinge.

"The Qamar Art Gallery will be closing in ten minutes. Ten minutes. We hope you enjoyed your stay."

There was nobody but him and his dangerous-eyed woman to hear it. A message just for them. He liked the idea of that enough to smile broadly at her. A devilish quality to it.

The announcement surprised her since she hadn't been keeping track of the time.  Her eyes traced his smile and she mirrored it.

"What sort of mischief could we cause in the next ten minutes?"  she asked quietly, staring up into his eyes.  Sonya leaned in closer, crossing the boundary of polite personal space to speak close to his ear.

"Or shall we see what kind of music we can make elsewhere?"  Deliberately open-ended, she was interested in observing where his initiative would lead.   A challenge?  Yes.  Hopefully, it wouldn't disappoint.  She could very well lead him wherever she desired, as was her very nature.  But there was excitement in not knowing.

This one was fun to play with, and she was hoping to not tire of him before the end of the evening.  The proximity was making her mouth water.  Images of stealing away into a dark corner, pressing him against the wall and placing her lips to his collar bone passed delectably through her mind.  She pulled away with that same devious smile on her lips.

The proposition wasn't unexpected even in its suddenness. He didn't fill silences with meaningless words and she didn't either. It didn't make for an easy conversation but at least it wasn't one-sided. Those people who could fill in the gaps were sometimes interesting, usually not. This woman was anything but boring.

"I have something in mind," he said.

It was a lie because he didn't really know. Stealing away with her somewhere appealed to his sense of adventure, causing mischief would feel reminiscent. If the night ended in sex then that was the end of their moment, and he didn't think that she wanted that. Perhaps her 'music' was about something else. He could wait and see where this went. No need to rush into anything.

He reached for her hand, slowly, purposefully, wanting to intwine their fingers together.

"Oh?"  Curious.  You're lying.  It didn't matter.  Acting impulsively could lead to interesting results.

Sonya's expression faltered as he reached for her hand.  This was unexpected.  There was a moment of hesitation before she allowed the touch, lightly linking their fingers together.  An affectionate gesture, something out of place for interacting with a stranger and yet it was not entirely unwelcome.  Inexplicably, her heart jumped at the contact with some kind of yearning.  Maybe it was the warmth.  She had not fed since Marco barely a week ago and would be noticeably cooler--though not the coldest she had been.  Her eyes were fixed on their joined hands, lost in the empty void before thought.

She had been oscillating between two states since Damien brought her back.  The stuttering shift between The Queen and a Mirage left a hollow gaping in her chest.  The Queen was familiar, but now felt empty.  Destabilized and wandering.  Lost?  That implied she had a destination in mind.

The cold touch of her skin made him think of polished stone. Her hand was delicate but not fragile, her fingers slim, long and powerful. His heartbeat raised a notch at the contact, just as meaningful for him as it was for her. He didn't touch people often - certainly he didn't reach out to hold the hands of women he'd only met a few minutes ago but, like her, he believed it felt right.

He began moving through the museum, taking her with him, not particularly inspired by anything where they could cause trouble, until he saw it; a large shell-like sculpture that had a space big enough for them to duck into. He glanced at her, wondering if staying behind while the museum locked up was enough to pique her interest, and decided that if it was good enough for him and it wasn't good enough for her, she could always part ways and leave.

Deeper inside the shell-sculpture as he followed it around was a small curved bench that could only barely sit two. He sat, extending his long legs away from the other half of it, and opened his hand to release her fingers, in case she wanted to sit on the bench beside him instead of holding onto his hand and sitting on his lap.

The idea of her seating herself upon him was daunting.

Her focus was firmly on the space between their fingers and his beating heart.  When was the last time she walked with anyone holding hands like this?  To lead a human to drink, yes.  But this was something else.  It felt like something else.  Something familiar.  There was a strange sort of shyness deep within her, like some foolish schoolgirl.  The feeling was pushed deeper as she called upon the mischevious smiles that before so easily painted her features.  She did so detest feeling weak and fluttery like a child.  Eyes hardened, lips curled.

Better.

The empty gallery went by in a blur as they traveled through it, ignoring the five-minute warning announced overhead.  There was an excitement swirling within her, pushing against her attempts at Being the hardened seductress.  The juxtaposition highlighted the illusion, making it more difficult to convince herself of.

What was the point of it all?

They finally came to a stop at the shell.  When he glanced at her she smiled with approval, placed hastily over the mixed thoughtful expression she had been fighting with.  It was an impressive structure, and as she wondered if he intended to go inside he ducked in.  She laughed quietly through her nose and allowed herself to be guided by his hand, feeling somewhat awkward as if bending were an unfamiliar action.  His heartbeat seemed louder to her now, insulated by the close-quarters of the shell walls.  She watched him sit as he released her hand and immediately she scolded herself for missing it.  The bench was small.  She snaked an arm around the back of him as she sat, holding her hand delicately against him.  It was more comfortable than awkwardly trying to keep their arms side by side, even if it increased the feeling of intimacy.  The thrill of novelty mixed with a bitter pang of regret--though she could not place why.

This was like some personal joke to her, after sleeping beneath the ocean, to share a shell with this delicious human.  She was caught between feeling like it was humorously poetic and sad.

The overhead music switched off.  She could hear staff walking about the gallery, checking for trash and stragglers.  One came close to where the two were sitting, but didn't bother checking the shell to see.  With rhythmic clicking, the main lights were switched off save for the few kept on for security.  It cast a dull glow about the gallery, further diffused by the structure of the shell.  It was then that she noticed a hole at the top, almost directly overhead.  It cast a dim spotlight on the floor in front of their feet.

The opening, then closing, of the front door followed by the jingle of keys in the lock signaled that they were finally alone.  This sent another little thrill through her.

"Got a cigarette?"  she asked quietly with a smile.

She didn't sit upon his lap. Of course she wouldn't. He felt silly for suspecting she might. He liked the touch on him but he also recognised it was there because of their forced proximity. He'd wanted to place a hand on her knee the instant she sat down because his arm wanted to naturally fall there, but he kept it respectfully away.

They both listened. He wasn't fearful of being discovered; if they were, then they were. They would be escorted out and told off. Police wouldn't be called, not for a couple sneaking away for a private moment. It stunned him momentarily to think of them as 'a couple', which would've been the assumption made by staff. He couldn't be bothered stealing glances at her - simply looking directly at her whenever the urge struck him. She was too lovely to look at for too long. He had to avert his gaze and then look back. Was that stealing glances? He didn't think so. She was like an eclipse. She might blind him.

The jangle of keys was a pleasant sound. He was still smiling at its musical quality when she asked for a smoke. He leant towards her so he could take the pack out of his jeans and then thumb it open. He offered her one to take. Inside was a lighter, if she cared to take that as well. If not, he would throw a cigarette in between his own lips and light hers, then his.

Enjoying the contact of their bodies, she leaned subtly into him while he retrieved the pack from his pocket.  She took the offered cigarette and placed it between her lips.

There was another pulse of memory behind the shroud, stopping her actions.
"When did you feed last?"
A hand--her hand--reaching, expectant.
A lit cigarette passed between fingers.
"You should probably come with me."

She blinked against it, willing the image to recede.  By the time she looked to her shell-companion there was a cigarette between his lips and he was reaching to light hers.  Watching him through a sideways look, she took a drag and exhaled lazily through her nose.  She rested the unoccupied arm between them on her knee, letting her hand dangle down and wondering casually if he would take it as an invitation.  Secretly she craved the touch, though she pushed against the feeling.

Moments passed, filling the sculpture with smoke.  It made for a darkly ethereal atmosphere with the dull lighting.  She let the ash grow long at the tip of the cigarette, and there was another hazy memory here.

A motionless figure on her deck with his back turned, ash up to the filter.

Let go.

With two-thirds of the cigarette gone, she pressed the glowing tip against the wall of the shell before dropping it to the floor.  There was an insignificant pang of guilt, as this was still a piece of art, but it wouldn't cause any kind of damage beyond discoloration.  It could always be scrubbed clean.

Decker let his cigarette drop to the floor and he pressed upon it with his shoe. Flat. Extinguished. He looked back into her eyes and wanted to do something for her, but wasn't sure what. Did she want to leave the sanctuary of the shell? He didn't want her to walk out of here. It was nice here. Peaceful.

He did take her dangling hand as an invitation, only he did more than just take it. He picked it up and held it to his lips - not kissing, just pressing her skin there and brushing his lips against them, to better feel the texture of her skin. He closed his eyes to better smell her - beneath the tendril of smoke lay the honey (not quite honey but certainly something flowery and sweet like honey) and spice. He moved her hand next to the side of his face, and he shifted towards her so she would be more comfortable.

He wanted to speak to her, but it felt wrong to break their gentle silence. Still, he needed words.

"Am I allowed to kiss you?"

She did not breathe--not that she needed to--when his lips brushed against her hand.  The warmth was magnetic and she shifted, mirroring the movement of his body, as he placed her hand to his face.  The weight of the space seemed to increase, heavy with smoke and their mingling scents, heartbeat close and tempting.  It made for an intoxicating bouquet.  Fingers traced his jawline, rubbing soft against the rough hair.

Her eyes locked on his, passing tumultuously between fierce hunger and gentle desire.  A quiver of vulnerability breaking through the concrete predator.  She closed the distance between them, her lips lingering a breath away from his.

"Yes," whisper like an exhale.

What are you doing?

Decker moved forward slowly, purposefully. He looked at her until he got very close, then dropped his gaze to her lips. With her hand on his face, he repeated the same gesture, calloused fingertips touching the flawless skin of her cheek an instant before his lips pressed to hers. His eyes fluttered closed to better focus. Much like he'd pressed his lips against her hand, so too did he press them upon her lips. Rubbing slightly, feeling their cool texture, different from her face. He adjusted, wetting his lips and like it might've been an accident, his tongue touched her. He adjusted again, tilting his head and opening his mouth to take in her lower lip, sucking on it. An exploration of sensation. Nothing too bold or demanding. Just... discovery.

He'd never kissed someone like her before. He'd never kissed this way before. He was usually given a hard sell before he accepted. He certainly didn't know his way around a soft-serve kiss.

Sonya could not hide the slight quake in her jaw now, teeth aching for flesh as he drew near.  She watched him in the beginning after he closed his eyes, leaning gently into the hand against her cheek.  There was the impulse to grip him by the wrist and slip her fangs past his skin.  But the gentleness of his approach, the slow movement of lips, the complete lack of urgency dropped her into a quiet place.  There was a rawness to this, leaving her with an uncomfortably open feeling.  She was sick with want--to take back control of the useless flittering timid thing, to give where she was pressed, to take what she wanted, to let go and drift.

Fuck him, drain him and be done with it.

Her mouth moved slowly against his, feeling the shape of his lips, restraining the desire to increase the intensity toward something resembling lust.  A lust that was safer to feel--more like she was before.  Instead, she traced the lines in the side of his face with her fingertips, hand traveling his jawline, fingers entwining his hair.  Grip.  Release.

As he kissed her, he thought of nothing at all. Lost to her as she accepted his kiss and returned it. It was a sweet thing, this kiss - something that lovers who cared deeply for each other might give. He liked the idea of it, he even liked the feel of it, regardless of his missing the other part. Her fingers in his hair summoned a tiny, breathy grunt of desire from him - not wanting to moan into her mouth even though his scalp was tingling at her touch. He wanted more but he wasn't going to force it. He pushed his want into the kiss by slow degrees before it started being too much and he broke away; heart hammering, skin feeling electric and ready to be touched, breathing having to be controlled, crotch needing adjusting because there was an uncomfortable pressing there. He moved his legs slightly, widening them as much as he was able to in the restriction of the shell. A bit better, but also a bit more obvious.

"What do I call you?" he asked. He'd never cared about names before - certainly never asked for one. He'd phrased it the way he had because she could have all kinds of answers for him. He realised his hand was on her leg now.
