Snake Or Set Animal:
A new exhibit coming to the city museum casts doubts about previous hypothesis regarding the chaos god
While the god of chaos and storms has been a popular character in entertainment and mythology, his role to the Egyptian people of the classical era may be different than previously thought. A recent exhibition, discovered in the ancient village of Sepermeru, and first housed in London's British museum, is making new claims. While thought of as a purely destructive force, it is now being theorized that he was an important balance god, and that he may have rivaled more prominent gods like Ra, and Osiris in number of followers and temples. It is even said that Ramses the 2nd, worshiped Set exclusively. Set's image began to shift near the end of the Late Kingdom period, and by then he was thought of as his standard depictions; a force of pure evil and temptation, and a gateway for foreign invasion. Additionally, while the fictional or extinct Set animal has often been used as the god's symbol, it is now theorized that he was more associated with snakes, and that there may be connections to the Christian myth of the Garden of Eden. The exhibit will begin display on ##/##/####, and leave only a three short weeks after. It's next stop is Los Angeles, so see it now!
