The Massacre of South Brockton
« on: August 18, 2019, 07:51:17 AM »
For Billy

With a blank mind, The Queen’s gaze remained fixed out the window as the Escalade moved past the city limits.  Smoke drifted between her fingers and up to the ceiling, pulled through the open gap of the tinted window and out into the night.  She occupied the liminal space between the conscious and unconscious, signs of humanity flickering in and out of the edges of her awareness.  Restlessness grew steadily in the back of her mind, the passing of time marked only by the dwindling number of clove cigarettes in the carton that lay on the leather seat beside her.  Wordlessly she pressed the need for her driver to quicken his speed of travel, though he scarcely needed prodding to put distance behind them.

On a deserted stretch of road between the bulk of the population where streetlights were few and far between, she pressed the command to Stop into the driver’s mind.  Her figure clad in close-fitting black, and with nothing but a cell phone in her pocket, the back door opened and she exited the vehicle.  Silent footfalls carried her directly to a stretch of trees that separated the road from rows of run-down apartment complexes and gutted businesses.  The driver knew enough to keep his distance until she came for him, moving the vehicle as needed to avoid arousing suspicion.

Something lurked beneath her skin, twisting and coiled, ready to burst.  Familiarity hung as an unseen fog, though The Queen was certain she’d never been to this city.  Hungry eyes cut through the dark, watching from the shadows as humans noisily passed by.  Sanguine-scented heartbeats added to the symphony of crickets taking refuge in the small cover of underbrush and maples.  The murmur of human thoughts drifted below this, flitting and dreamy with a hazy undercurrent of poverty-induced stress and weariness.  Mind opening to the sound, she mapped where they were in the radius of her awareness--glowing dots in a sea of darkness.

When she emerged from the shadows she stepped alone under a flickering streetlamp.  Cushioning her footfalls with levitation, her silent movement into the narrow alley went unnoticed by the humans tucked into doorways and sleeping by dumpsters.

In a blur of black, she overtook the closest by the dumpster, hefting him up against the wall with one ivory arm.  The repulsive stench rolling off his skin was nearly enough to mask the sweet odor of blood beneath.  One hand covered his spittle-flecked mouth to stifle his surprised cries, while the other held him fast against the wall despite his sluggish struggling.  Her eyes glinted dangerously in the dark, meeting his terror-filled gaze before she buried her face into his pulsing neck.

The human was given no wash of comfort, no gentle caress or silky seduction.

Fangs pushed past the soft resistance of flesh, snapping like the skin of a grape, releasing a rush of red into her open, trembling mouth.  Hands pushed fruitlessly against her unmovable form, scarcely interrupting her focus.  He was exquisitely flavored by fear, enough to draw a pleasurable moan from her even as he bit down on the hand that covered his mouth.  With a snarl and a quick jerk of her head, she tore a gash into his throat to increase the flow.  She was scarcely aware of the cries of pain muted against her hand as her teeth sank deeper, the tears wetting her fingers, or the stench of urine dripping down his leg.  In the periphery of her awareness came the sound of crunching by his shoulder where she held him, but still she did not stop.  She took and took, well after his struggling ceased with a final grunt and the flow of his blood slowed.

The Queen pulled away, letting the body slip back to the cement with a sickening thud.  For a moment her gaze fixed on the steam rising from the messy wound at his neck, drifting skyward in the cold of the night.

She took the next in the same fashion and silence, her face pressed greedily into another warm neck.  Then another.  By the fifth in a third alleyway, with mouth and chin sticky with blood, she became aware of a presence tracking her.  Feasting had left her open to approach as her attention remained razor-sharp on her targets.  She kept a steady pace in the dark, scanning the surroundings to determine the number.  Two.  Five.  Seven.  Plus another, distinctly inhuman with a puzzling scent.

These were hunters, she was sure, and if she were any younger it might’ve brought fear up from her gut.  It wouldn’t be the first time.

The Queen smiled, her warm skin alight with tingling as she led the group toward a dead end.  They were cornering her, she could hear them talking amongst themselves.  She was tracked specifically.  How had they known of her before?  It was of little consequence, her fingers itched to bite at flesh.

Endlessly faster than they could ever react, she whizzed to the rear of them and saw that the group was armed with glinting silver, bows and guns.  Before they’d registered her movement,  she’d taken one down with a quick twisting of the neck.  The first shower of cracks caught her unexpectedly in the shoulder, a handful of bullets, but she was off in a blur before the rest could touch her.  They were nothing and she was well fed.

What a deadly mistake they’d made.

It was a simple matter of crushing the gun with her mind, so long as she kept moving at the same time.  The one who held it yelped in surprise and dropped the heap of twisted metal to the pavement.  She was upon him before he looked up from it, replenishing herself with a rapid mouthful of lifeblood before twisting his head sharply to the side.  The second gun went off, cutting through the still body in her arms in an effort to get to her.  But much like the first, she destroyed the gun before rushing the one who held it.

The glint of a silver knife registered to the left, followed shortly by the yell of the charging human who wielded it.  The blade whizzed just out of reach, but she was behind him with a simple step, twisting his neck the same as the first.  The next human succumbed to her teeth first before she twisted his neck to stop the struggle.

With an expression of merciless glee, she overtook them one by one, dodging and sidestepping their slow-motion attacks.  Childsplay.  A primal part of her longed for a better challenge though she did so detest being interrupted during a hunt.  All the while, she kept an eye on the inhuman one, making sure she stayed farthest from him.

In her prime she was tireless, power coursing through her without a shred of caution holding her back.  Her only regret was that she couldn't take them all with her teeth in their throats, draining them one by one.  When the final human dropped to the ground, her forearms and hands were slicked in their blood.  A single gash in the flesh of her upper right arm knit itself shut with a kind of speed expected of an ancient.  The bullet wounds closed within a span of two minutes--she’d have to dig them out later, mentally or physically--but she paid them no mind.

Steadily she fixed her challenging gaze on the inhuman one, her wicked smile dark with anger, flashing her pointed teeth pink with the blood of his companions.  Wet with blood smeared from her lips to her chest, she stood unaffected by the onslaught of their attack, the echo of surprised screams dying in her ears.

"Nox, are you there, over."

The Altered Human took his radio and moved it to his lips, the rest of his squad joking around in the background. It was Karen's birthday, and after patrol Nox had planned a party for her. He'd sworn the rest of the squad to secrecy, and none of them dared cross their commanding officer. He smiled as Karen hit Dashawn in the arm.

"This is Nox, over," he replied, his deep base voice reverberating through the otherwise still night. They'd been sent to patrol the sleepy hamlet of South Brockton. The supers in the city had become organized as of late. The west had fallen from Project Twilight's grip, and the rumor was some big boss was back in town. They'd capture him eventually. Nox was sure of it. He was most interested in the happenings of the downtown vampires, and Luke of course. Dreki was working tonight so Nox had been dispatched to make sure that the suburbs were free of fangs and horns. They were all dressed in combat gear, body armor and loaded up with weapons. They mostly looked like standard military, except for the crossbows, and the few humans they saw gave polite, but otherwise confused stares. They'd almost packed up for the evening. There were no targets in sight.

"We have reports of a 91 moving through Cherry Ln. Please investiage. Potential loss of human life. Over."

"Understood, moving out. Over."

With that Nox turned off his radio and moved to address his people. "Attention," he said softly. They others stopped their bickering. Nox was not one to repeat himself. He explained the radio message, and new orders before beginning to move in that direction. They were close, but still needed to close the gap before the 91 moved out of range. HQ hadn't provided more description other than the 91 looked female. Nox hoped they'd know the beast when they saw it, and that too many innocent people hadn't been hurt. They found the bum first. The vampire had left no blood, only the husk of a person. It angered them all, but none more than Nox. He silently commanded them to follow the trail of death till they reached their target.

More bodies, each of them throats torn to shreds, guided them to the alley where the 91 was currently taking another life. Karen moved to engage, but a careful hand from Nox stopped her. They needed to corner her. Nox had been told a vampire was never more dangerous then after they'd fed, and vampires also ranged from fairly weak and easy to kill, to near impossible to take down. They facility hadn't yet figured out how to tell which from which, and that made engaging difficult. The raido buzzed.

"Engage the hostile," was the order. Nox had no choice but to follow. He would've wanted more information. He would've tracked her back to a residence, a car, fuck, even a bus stop! However, he knew better than to question his commanding officer. They tracked her to a dead end, and Nox seriously wondered who was trapping who. When his first soldier went down, Nox responded by shooting those first bullets into Sonya's shoulder. The nervous looking trooper who's gun she destroyed with her mind had been standing near him, but his fear had made all his shots miss. Nox realized quickly this was a powerful vampire, and would need to be taken down quickly, or not at all. He freed his tail, cracking it like a whip as it freed itself from his pants. His eyes seemed to glow in an almost ethereal way, and he continued shooting at her as she dispatched his comrades.

Karen fell last. She'd managed to get a swipe towards the vampire's arm with her Bowie knife, but then she too was dead. She'd told Nox earleir that night she was pregnant. What a fucking savage," Nox thought as he readied himself for this fight. His comrades had all been regular humans. Alteration was expensive and required a good genetic profile. Luke and Nox had both been chosen because they were exceptional specimens already. Even Dreki had something about him that had made him good for Dr. Hofflan's experiments. The rest had been dedicated military; army, marines, Irag war veterans who'd decided to keep serving their country. Now they were dead, and it had all happened in seconds.

Nox pulled out a savage looking knife, and placed a pair of spiked brass knuckles on his other hand. His guns were dropped. It was clear this vampire was beyond them. He moved towards her, figuring her speed would make her want to attack first. He had a nasty surprise for the bitch if she did. He began the delicate process of weaving darkness. He couldn't do anything about her sense of smell or hearing, but if he could take her eyes out of the match he would stand a chance, maybe.

"Come get me fanger," he said softly enough that no humans could hear, but clear enough that Sonya would have no issue picking up the words.

The musical laugh of the Queen, full of malice, rang out through the air.  She maintained her distance from the creature, watching and smelling, her eyes flickering over the knife.  After witnessing such simple destruction, it was a foolish move to press on with the assault.  Saturated as she was with blood, her sharpened senses opened to the night air.  Unphased by whatever strange powers the creature began to wield, the Queen flexed her mental fingers into the alleyway.

Perhaps she would play with this one.  Would he taste as strange as he smelled?

"Fanger?"  Slowly she stepped to the side, a charming smile splitting the dried blood at the corners of her mouth.  The weight of her aura increased tenfold as she reached into the creature's mind to speak.  "You should have run when you had the chance."  Cautiously she took a few steps closer, watching him closely for signs of movement.

The voice in his head made Nox's eyes widen with fear. Vampires in his head ended one way. Sonya might even see an image of him being sublimated by vampires in the past, although all of them were male. He decided he'd need to attack her or risk her breaking his mind. He wondered why he was so open to those forms of attack, but rationalized that she was obviously very powerful. That's how she'd gotten in.

He rushed, sure he would never reach her after seeing how fast she was moving. He raised his fingers and whipped his tail forward in a strike. At the same moment he shot a pulse of darkness from his fingers, aiming for the Queen's eyes. Blinding her and making her rely on other senses was his best chance.

The delicious images running through the creature's mind were fascinating, and her laughter rang sharply in his head in response to them.  When he began moving forward, she was sure to stay well out of his reach, keeping her eye on that strange tail.  The blackness shot from his fingertips caught her attention too late, though she was in the midst of turning her head when it hit one eye.

She jumped back a distance, squeezing her eyes shut and giving her head a sharp shake.  There wasn't any sense in being shocked, this was a creature she'd never encountered before.  One good eye was better than none, and the action had only served to enrage her.  She bore down into his mind with the intent to instill a paralyzing fear.

Glaring intensely in his direction, she let out a feral hiss before lunging forward with inhuman speed.  She aimed to slash at his flesh with her bare hands, to feel blood spilling over her sharp fingertips.

This vampire was far too fast for Nox to fight. He knew it. She was on him in moments, tearing at him and piercing his skin. He manged to get a hold of one of her wrists, his own strength seeming to be locked in with her's. He tried to throw a knee in her gut, but she effortlessly moved away. Nox's tail whipped at the blind side of her face, trying to break her concentration as he slashed with the dagger towards her throat. All he needed to do was bleed her to even this fight. If he could just cut her throat, he'd have a chance.

Up close his scent was much more alluring, and had she a weaker constitution it might've been distracting.

Fighting hand-to-hand like this was a mistake.  She hadn't expected the creature to exhibit such strength, and this shock filtered into her expression as he held fast to her wrist.  His dagger missed but the tail did not, thanks to the vice grip on her wrist.  Only partly avoided, the stinging cut barely registered to her, closing before it had much time to bleed.

The audacity!

"Enough.  Release me." she pressed the command into his mind as she spoke it aloud.  Any attempts to resist would be met with an increase in pressure and urgency.  As soon as his grip released even a fraction she'd wrench her hand away.

Nox instantly did as he was told, without incident or resistance. The Queen's wrist was let go right away, and Nox took several steps back, standing at perfect attention. His expression was horrified, and he felt a complete and total fear. He might have been able to best her in a physical fight, but with very few words, he was no waiting to be killed. The Queen would notice how quickly and perfectly he followed her instructions. His mind felt like any natural defenses it once held had been stripped away, like how the Ventrue condition their thralls. He was a ready out of the box soldier toy, and he was all her's.

"Awaiting further instructions," he informed her. Over his headset, a handler was saying a series of words in Russian.

The compliance pleased her, and a seductive smile overtook her features.  "That's better," she purred, watching his expressions as she wondered what she'd do with him.

Her eyes narrowed suspiciously at the words she detected from the little speaker against his ear.  "Let me see that," she reached out, palm open and expectant.  She watched him intently as he obeyed, placing the headset into her outstretched hand.  Her gaze didn't leave his eyes as the headset crumpled like paper in her fist.  She tipped her hand to the side to let the crushed pieces fall to the pavement, keeping a steady hold of his mind should he try anything still.  Though he seemed less than capable of any sort of resistance now.

After brushing her hands together to clear them of the debris, she closed the distance between them till their cheeks almost brushed together.  The Queen inhaled slowly near his ear before sensually exhaling the question;

"What sort of creature are you?"

"I'm human mam, just changed," he replied, his statuesque face showing the tiniest bit of fear. There was something else in his eyes. It was almost impossible to detect, but with the Queen's mind tuned in to his, she would recognize some form of submissive pleasure. It was fighting against the hatred and anger and fear, but it was there nonetheless. He said no more, as no more was directly asked of him. He couldn't lie, and so whatever she smelt, he believed he was human.

Submission and pleasure were not unexpected.  It was the very core of how she played her games.

"Changed?"  She circled him, eyeing the tail.  "Changed how?"  He was not human, but she could feel his belief to that.  Clingy and desperate.

He tried to resist her now. it was pathetic and futile. His lips stayed closed for only a quarter of a second longer than he should've. All he could do was choose his words carefully.

"Altered. Altered human. Made to equal the bad guys."

His body was rigid and electrified. His eyes looked like a doe. His massive size and hulking frame did nothing for him now. He was her's. There was pain in the back of his neck that started to build. He felt dizzy.

"Altered human," She echoed thoughtfully, still circling him at a leisurely pace.  When she came back to the front of him, her mouth was a tight line of displeasure.

Bad guys.  What was this, a fucking movie?

Expertly her mental hold on him slithered into a seductive pull, playing up the pleasure thrumming beneath his fear.  "Couldn't you say that we are also Altered humans?"  She pressed her fingers lightly against her chest, a playful smile on her face.

The feelings of pleasure intensified, but so did the feeling of pain in the back of his neck. His cock twitched and he really looked at this woman now. God she beautiful. She was terrifying and strong, and despite her size took up so much space. He hated how much he wanted her. He wanted to place his hands around her neck as he fucked her, somehow killing her at the same time, but the fantasy switched, and then she was killing and fucking him, taking him for his body and nothing else. It was magic.

"Project Twilight considers vampires undead mam," he replied, having to answer her question. As her fingers touched his chest, he somehow tensed even more.

The images dancing through his mind were not completely unexpected, though she disliked his insistence on wanting to kill her.  Had he been an ordinary human, she might've considered playing a little more in that way - but she was no fool.  There was danger in the unknown, and you didn't live as long being completely reckless.

It never crossed her mind that her evening up until this point had, in fact, been reckless.

"Yes, but we were humans and are now Altered, yes?"  A pouty, impatient sigh escaped her.  After a beat, she waved dismissively, caring little about actually convincing him of anything.  It was clear that he was some sort of puppet.

This Project Twilight was more interesting.  It stank like Big Government.  Would it be time to relocate again?

"What is this Project Twilight?"
