Rise Of An Arach Angel
« on: November 08, 2019, 12:24:21 AM »
(Continued from Nox's Nighttime Habit)

The drive to the facility was longer than Jeanne expected and, with the time it had taken for everyone to arrive at Venture in the first place, their cars prowled their way through the final bit of distance and stopped at the compound's perimeter a short while after midnight. They would only have about three hours to get everything accomplished in order to give them enough time to get back to the safety of the city once more. It was a tight time frame.

Drew was in the lead car with Charon, Hugh and Dreki, guiding Jeanne's car holding she, Ari and Royce. She and her grandsire communicated along the way as necessary. The detective whelp was the one who had ideas about where to go and what to do so it had seemed logical to pair him with Hugh, their primary tactician, for the journey. By the time they arrived, she expected their plan to be established. Jeanne intended to follow their instructions, whether they included killing every last person at the facility or not. She had no qualms either way; her goal was destruction, pure and simple.

This fetid nest of torture and hunter spawning needed to be razed to the ground.

The cars' engines switched off, the drivers holding their positions for a fast getaway. Jeanne disembarked her vehicle, straightening her red velvet tuxedo jacket and patting her hair once more. She hoped that this adventure didn't ruin her shoes. That would be a shame; they were expensive. She sauntered towards Drew, Dreki, Hugh and Charon, ready to hear her instructions.

Nerves had gotten the better of Dreki and he stayed mostly quiet during their trip, unless he was spoken to or had a tidbit of important information that might have been glossed over before. It didn't help that Charon was easily much older than Jeanne and Ari, it was a weird thing to notice but he doubt he'd ever meet another Vampire quite as vampiric as Charon. In fact he remembered the name from somewhere, wasn't he a district leader? He felt more confused than before. Jake McCloud, his previous district leader before the demon guy came back, knew about the facility and yet did barely anything. Did hiring Drew to look into things even count as doing something? Meanwhile Charon, someone whom he had never met before, who led a district he never lived in before, was gung ho about correcting the situation now. He didn't know how to feel about this information.

When they arrived, he stayed in the car until others started to get out, and he simply followed. He didn't have an idea on where to start, but he could help augment ideas into better ones with his knowledge about this place. Freedom was in his grasp, he was close enough to taste it. He refused to let this go wrong, he wasn't going to die trying, he was going to make sure he lived to enjoy his freedom. He'll have to think of a way to thank everyone, so when this is all over with, he could do so properly in a way that would be meaningful.

Ari had found Royce was sober. Thank god. It had been early enough in the night that his fledge hadn't disappeared into his normal, human circles, and had come at his sire's call. Royce seemed to know the difference between when Ari was summoning him because he'd broken a rule, or when it was dire. With his speed, the young vampire arrived before the others. Ari took him aside and got him up to speed. He wasn't focusing on their bond at the moment, and so wasn't sure what Royce thought about the whole thing. One thing all Sacrament members felt post Catherine's death, was that hunters needed to die; no mercy, no compassion, and no waiting for them to strike first.

Ari rarely used the massive power he held. He felt it was his responsibility to be conservative with such things. It helped one stay closer to the human parts of themselves. Tonight was not that night. His grandsire, who's power doubled his own, was here to oversee this. Ari knew he would give no quarter. Unlike his blood cousin, he did care he had to potentially take many human lives. His nature was to preserve life, not end it. Even as a hunter, he mostly caught animals to make them into pets, or for the sport. He almost never actually hurt them.

During the car ride, Ari mostly focused on the mental preparation for what was about to occur. He mentally touched his love, and placed his hand on the other's. Don't run off deep in the bowels of this place. Stay near me, please. When they got to the drop off spot, Ari's eyes indicated that a few patrolling guards would discover this position in about ten minutes. He would share this information with Hugh and Mr. Sullivan. In many ways, he was glad Felicia wasn't here to see this, or be a part of it. She'd taken Catherine's death so hard.

I managed to text McCloud that he better be ready to pay out my contract in full, but left it vague as to why. After a quick "I love you" to Zeph, my texting ended, and I tossed it in my jacket. I was able to navigate the two cars without much incident, forcing the driver to take the back roads, instead of the better lit, more well known, ones. I'd found him practical. At the end of the day, it was my information that exposed this place, my following of Nox that brought this all to a head, and my interest in Dreki's case that kicked off this whole mess. I was still livid the Adams family was rolling in like the damn cavalry. However, their mission suited my real mission, and so I decided the best thing I could do, for now, was to be helpful and a team player. Once we were inside, I'd find out what I came to find out.

The one called Hugh was apparently some tactician, and so I shared my knowledge of their guard patrols, where their spotlights shined, and knowledge about the fences. Those were our first obstacle. On the night I followed Dreki I watched a bird get turned into deep fried chicken when it went to perch on the fence. Electric, and likely a much higher voltage than a standard electric fence. I also explained that these hunters were not just humans with crossbows, that Nox had an imp tail, and Sheriff Luke had the weird shifter arm. Hugh seemed to take all this in, and didn't seem to be overly chatty. Thank fucking god for that fact.

Once we were assembled, I addressed the group.

"The side door can be reached without incident if we're stealthy. I can dim myself, and I figure a family as old as yours got your own ways of getting across. Since Ari said some guards will discover the cars, I vote we quietly snap their necks on route, maybe pull them to the side of the building so they won't be discovered right away. Once we're past the patrols and the outer lot, I know the side door we can enter into. I know it's tempting to rush the front gate, crack a few necks for show, but remember, they are expecting vampires, and made people like Dreki and other super soldiers. Imagine if every single one of them was Buffy was the Vampire Slayer. They will be strong, fast, and regenerate quickly. We also don't know what tech they might have, but I've heard rumors of bullets that will fragment inside us - making it harder to heal -, titanium doors, and possibly, magic."

"My point is, if you don't want to die, don't rush head first at shit."

With that, I vanished in front of them, dimming myself completely, and except for those with Ausepx or another form of second sight, I would appear as invisible. The Munsters could form the front guard. I'm a god damn specialist.

Royce had planned to spend the night drinking and fucking his way through the White Rabbit, but had been stopped on his way out the door by Ari's summons. Few things scared Royce anymore in his undead life. He'd known the full spectrum of fear during his human life and undeath had given him few new terrors. But the one thing that never failed to send a shiver down Royce's spin was a summoning by his sire like the one he received. The gravity and seriousness of his sire's mental request shook Royce to his core slightly, preoccupying his mind while he changed into something less flashy. He stepped out of his apartment wearing all black, consisting of semi-tight sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and Nike trainers. An outfit like this worked to Royce's advantage when combined with his speed, allowing him to slip between the shadows, granting him near invisibility to those with non-supernatural sight. A large, sheathed hunting knife sat hidden in the pouch of the sweatshirt. Royce had no desire to use such a weapon, but he was unsure of what this night might bring.

Royce arrived before the others, finding only his sire there to greet him. He kissed Ari gently on the cheek and listened as he described the situation at hand. The anger and violence he felt from his sire was startling and worried him even more than the summoning had. Royce too felt anger and bitterness towards the hunters for what happened to Catherine. Unlike the other members' of the family, she had shared Royce's willful nature and he'd found her a joy to be around. He'd tried to forget about death with as much booze, drugs, and sex as he could, but the grief still lingered in his mind after nearly a century. Even then, he knew his sire hurt more than Royce ever could. Ari had known Catherine since she was a fledge, and had bonded with her for longer than Royce had been alive. While he understood the pain and anger Ari was feeling, he worried what that would cause him to do. He was always so restrained, but Royce feared what would happen once Ari was given enough to snap.

He spent most of the car ride sharpening his knife, dull from lack of use over the past few years. While Royce did not enjoy the idea of taking a life, he also understood that the hunters would not think twice about taking his or his lover's. If they were to survive tonight, they'd have to protect themselves in every way they could. At Ari's mental instruction, Royce nodded seriously and mentally responded Don't worry love. I'll be right next to you. I won't let you out of my sight. Royce could care less about his own life, but would kill every single hunter they found if it meant keeping Ari safe. As the arrived at their destination, Royce exited the vehicle, lighting a cigarette and gazing at the assembled family. He shot a cheeky, yet sour grin at the sight of Hugh and nodded politely to the other members of the family. Unsure of what to make of the newcomers, he stayed close to his sire, waiting to see what would happen next.

Hugh and Charon spent a great deal of time discussing with Jeanne what she had discovered and what the outcome would be. It was no secret between the three of them that only the complete destruction of the laboratory was acceptable, including all personnel associated with it. Charon had dictated that loose ends would only spell disaster. Hugh had queried innocents and if there were children inside and after some deliberation Charon amended that the outcome for any children found within the lab would be decided on a per-child basis. Hugh's irritation was felt by both Charon and Jeanne but he didn't argue.

Once they were out of the car and ready for their maneouvre, Drew spoke up and they all listened to him speak. Charon didn't know what a buffy was but he understood the words 'vampire slayer'. Everything that Drew warned them about wasn't an issue for Charon except for the last. The word 'magic' soured his expression.

When the whelp had the gall to vanish in front of them, Charon's opinion shifted dramatically because he showed he did not understand how to work in a team. Charon sent a message to his family not to bother saving the young vampire if he got into trouble because he only wanted to work in his own way and on his own terms.

Should we rid ourselves of him now? He could mess up our ambush if he's not working with us. Hugh asked, not quite looking in the direction where Drew was.

No, he might have some use as a scout. Can you see him? Charon asked both Hugh and Royce, for he knew that he, Jeanne and Ari would be able to see Drew clearly but they were a lot more powerful than those two.

No, but I can smell him, Hugh replied. Charon snorted laughter though he understood Hugh was serious.

Your lead, Hugh, Charon said.

Hugh debated speaking mentally but spoke out loud so everyone would know what the Sacramentum plan was.

"Drew is a separate ally and will be our canary. Destroying the lab is our number one priority. Protecting Dreki is number two. Evacuating innocents is number three. We will enter as a unit to maximise our force. We will not split up. We will not deviate. Exploring the lab is a no go. Speed is our best asset. Stealth only when we can't move quickly. We will take out the power at every opportunity until their generators go dark. Charon, Jeanne and Ari are to overload or smash all tech. Everybody in there who isn't locked up is our enemy. Execute them without hesitation."

Hugh glanced at Royce, knowing that he would have an issue with the last order. It was about time he learnt what real sacrifice was.

"Charon, can you read the property?"

Charon stared at Hugh for a moment, not knowing what he meant. With a quick touch of Hugh's mind he realised that Hugh wanted him to touch the minds of everyone on there for a status of how many people they were going to come into contact with. Charon became still and sent a mental wave outward, akin to an ocean wave. It rushed over the property where the buildings lay and upon pulling back Charon had information that he didn't like.

"Thousands. Many of them underground. Most of their minds are vulnerable but there were perhaps thirty or so that I struggled to see," he stressed, which implied that they would have some strong resistance in the higher security zones. At least they had physical force to rely on and speed, as Hugh had pointed out, and stealth, as Drew seemed to favour, (even though the whelp neglected to explain how Dreki would deal with it as well as Royce and Hugh--apathetic to their strengths and weaknesses).

"Let's get into formation and head out," Hugh said.

"There is one part of that plan I don't like," Dreki spoke up, having otherwise allowed them all to talk and plan and get ready for the onslaught that was about to happen, "I did ask that we save the medical records, so if we destroy all the technology there, we'd end up destroying that too. I know they have their own data storage somewhere in that building, so if we find that room, please try and salvage all you can of it. I can sort through it later and delete whatever isn't medical records, as I don't want anyone else to go through what I did. The reason why I'm adamant about that I get those is that my alterations did come at a price to my health, and I'd probably die within 6 months if I don't get mine and find a doctor in the know to continue whatever treatments I need after this. Any innocents we save will also need theirs for similar reasons."

"My priorities are my sister, medical records, and also saving innocents, in that very order. I'm not too concerned with the destruction of this place mostly because I know you all are focusing on that instead and I'll help where I can with that." He explained so they were aware that they had similar goals in taking this place down once and for all, but really, he wanted to free his sister, and he wanted to live long enough to enjoy his freedom. The only reason why he even knew they had their own storage system was because Hofflan did mention it in passing in front of Dreki before, in a memory that was once wiped before tonight. He was nervous, but ready to get going, he was turning his nerves to determination. Tonight, he'd be free, and he'd make sure of that.

"I'll get the records Dreki," I said allowed, invisible still, but since Dreki can't see I suspected there would hardy be a difference. The younger Sacrament members were good looking in a way that I liked, especially Royce, and I made a note to look him up again if we both survived. Without another word I began to creep forward, moving between the shadows with a practiced and silent ease. I knew the others would follow, and I'd have a few guards down by the time they reached me at what might be called, the first checkpoint.

Ari turned to Jeanne and the other members of his family.

"Let us be done with this abomination, and Royce," he said, addressing his child. "Do... not... run... ahead!"

He added mentally to Charon and Jeanne only. I think Mr. Sullivan will prove useful getting in, but if he manages to survive I would like to interrogate him. He knows much about our family, and other than the human boy, he's the only one who knows this Nox got through our gates. I would like to make sure he doesn't share this secret.

Ari waited for Jeanne or Charon to wave them forward. He hoped Mr. Sullivan left them a pile of bodies, neatly stacked, and out of the way.

Royce did nothing to hide his dislike at Hugh's final command and his rival's need to pointedly glare at him as if already knowing his reaction. Just like a cop to think violence and death is the only solution. However, he said nothing, turning rather to face Ari. He didn't like to think about it, but there was no guarantee any of them would survive this evening, besides maybe Charon with his age and power. Fear threatened to grip Royce's heart as he studied the intense emotions still playing out across Ari's face. He reached out to grasp Ari's, but stopped himself as Ari spoke. Royce recoiled softly at Ari's command to not run ahead. Though his mental powers were weaker than most of the family, Royce reached out with his mind to touch his sire's. "I told you... I won't run ahead. I'll be right with you at all times... Please believe me..." Tears fought to appear at the edges of his eyes, but Royce shook them off. It hurt him that Ari still felt he had to keep him under control when all Royce wanted to do was stay by his side and keep him safe. But after 400 years, Royce couldn't really blame Ari for mistrusting him and it broke his heart to acknowledge it. "Please be careful love. I can't lose you... I can't..." Reaching out once more, but this time to clasp Ari's face gently, Royce pulled it close and gave him a soft kiss on the lips, uncaring about what anyone else would think or say. Pulling away after a few seconds he retreated behind his sire and pulled the hunting knife from his pocket and its sheath. He tossed the blade in the air a few times, flipping and catching it with relative ease. It had been awhile since he'd used it, but he hadn't forgotten how to use it. Royce waited patiently for the signal to go.
