Ill Thoughts and Ill Deeds.
« on: December 11, 2019, 06:19:23 PM »
He sat on the corner edge of the table, using it like a stool, his right leg propped up on the bench seat while the other dangled freely, scuffing the ground beneath with the tip of his shoe. The night was getting late, but the carnival wasn’t slowing down at all, actually the opposite was true, the later it got the busier it became. People were milling around everywhere, except for this little lonely table, placed at the top of the small hill beneath the shadow of the large tree sprawling above it. It was too far from everything he guessed and probably too secluded. Day time would probably be different, the tree would offer shade and the distance from the main attractions would allow some respite from the chaos and press of humanity. The table and its location suited him perfectly, he could watch while staying out of sight for the most part and it prevented anyone from sneaking up on him.

He had been at the table a little while now, waiting. Not that he minded the wait, for the time alone had given him time to think and to explore the show bags he had been forced to buy. The Winged Creatures one had made him laugh, the golden feathered figurine, which he had assumed was meant to represent Light Angels, had been melted a little and was stuck to the table beside him. Its form was still discernible, but its wings and face had been mangled and grotesquely malformed, a toothpick had been inserted into it so that the unfortunate thing looked like it had been impaled to boot. A dark winged figurine stood atop the tip of another toothpick, looking victorious as it watched over its despised brethren, gloating at its pain and torment, a blackened toothpick had been inserted into its hand, making it look like the creature was holding a dark sword.

He had moved on from playing with the figurines though. Now he dipped a small plastic brush into a small bottle of bubble solution, he then pulled it out and blew some bubbles. They shimmered beneath the night sky, reflecting the lights from the carnival as they drifted and spread out towards the happy, fun loving masses.

He narrowed his eyes as he watched the bubbles drift over the crowds then smiled wickedly. How long had it been since he had played? Too fucking long. He dipped the brush into the bottle again and pulled it out but this time when he blew into and over the brush, he did so with intent, the result was a stream of small bubbles. The bubbles came out shimmering with a red patina, each one filled with a touch of lust. They would drift over the crowd, landing and breaking only on those of the right mind and mood. Those they landed and burst on would find their desires suddenly inflamed and uncontrollable, they would be consumed by them. Soon there would be couples screwing with total abandon and wantonness in the shadow filled tent alleys and dark recesses of the different attractions.

He smiled as he watched them drift off on the gentle night breeze towards the unsuspecting public. This whole election business was ridiculous anyway. Jake should have squished it before it even started. Ben should have come before the council and called for a vote of non-confidence against Jake and claimed the right to his seat. He would have gotten a majority vote no problems, hell, it might even been unanimous. Instead, there was this circus with both parties claiming to make changes that would affect the rest of the District Leaders and running of the city if they won. Fucking vampires!

His next stream of bubbles shimmered with darkness, each one filled with anger bordering on rage. They would find those that were tired and cranky, the irritated, or those that were generally bad spirited, and feed those flames. They will suddenly break, giving into their dark impulses, consumed with rage. No longer able to tolerate those that push in at the ques, or those that keep bumping them or makes their child drop their ice cream or plutopup, or those who can no longer stand the way a person is eyeing up their partner. Violence would soon spread through the carnival like fireworks on Independence Day.

Fucking and Fighting, the two most primal and basic drives that controlled nearly every animal, supe or not.

He dipped the brush into the bottle once more and started to draw it out slowly, his eyes gleaming with dark power, his hair blowing about slightly in the night breeze as a small smile of wicked amusement played across his lips when he herd a foot shuffle through the leaves on the ground behind him.

From the shadows Chtahzus'aak watched.

The Carnival had proved to be an interesting event, though he had little desire to partake in it.  Unseen, he listened while Samson dealt with reporters and prospective voters.  Samson seemed prepared to handle the barrage of questions well enough.  There was something that he disliked about the entire election ordeal that Zeus had yet to put his finger on.  Nevermind the fact that an election in Central would inevitably put pressure on the other districts to follow suit.  Perhaps he'd lose interest in politics altogether, remain a private entity with a vested interest in protecting demons, offering resources as he had been since coming back.  It was too early to tell.

The tree on the hill cast an inviting shadow that he slipped into well before the dark angel chose the table to perch atop.  Since his primary purpose of attending the Carnival was to observe, he remained hidden in the shadows of tree branches for a time.  Bubble blowing?

Fascinating.

Chtazus'aak stepped forward from the darkest shadows, towering in true form for an unhurried moment while human flesh shifted over him.  "Can't resist a bit of chaos, can you, Saraekiel?"  A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.

She had been on the fence as to whether or not she would attend Ben Samson's little coming out party. Besides the mounting pile of documents and contracts she had to still look through, there were a many other things unappealing about being around so many people all at once. The sounds, the clashing of auras and emotional spaces, the annoyances of children... She debated whether her political image could take such a hit as to not being seen at the Carnival. With Ben Samson's democratic can of worms about elections, she deemed that it would be ill advised to not attend, lest she be seen as not appreciative of the movement towards election. What eventually settled her mind in the decision was the likelihood that McCloud would likely take it as a jab that she so openly supported Ben.

She dressed sensibly for the evening, mostly so that she could blend in more and not be questioned by plebeians as she tried to enjoy herself. With a black cold-shoulder blouse that dipped tastefully, hugged her frame amicably, she decided that casual was best and decided on a pair of fitted black leather jeans and charcoal knee-high suede boots. As she weighed her decisions against the temperature and weather outside for the night, she figured that it would keep her from getting either too cool or too warm. Her hair she left long for the first time in ages, enjoying the bounce and wave that had been maintained through luck. Zoheret ran her hands through it several times before calling herself done.

She had invited Michelle along with her in the car and together they chatted about how droll the affair would be with Zoheret leading the conversation. Michelle and the driver, Jesus, participated willingly in the discussion, though Zoheret could see both of their enthusiasms plain as day in the auras that surrounded them. Humans were such excitable creatures. When the car stopped and Jesus came to let them both out, she turned to her human companions and in a rare act of kindness, told them to enjoy themselves without her, but that both of their phones should remain on should she need them. Worry flickered through their auras and they denied her, saying that they had expected to be by Zoheret's side. It wasn't until the dark angel smiled and insisted that the humans took their leave of her.

Zoheret took in the sights with passing interest and little fancy. She didn't buy a show bag or fried food, but she couldn't resist a small bag of kettle popped corn that she picked at on her casual stroll through the fairgrounds. Just as predicted, children screamed and rides whistled and auras blended together in a dizzying mesh of colors that began to give her a headache. She kept her wings concealed and close to her back to avoid anyone from accidently jostling them, though there were others about who were plainly enjoying their open time. After about twenty or so minutes, she was ready for a break from the crowds and sought any free place to escape the crowd and the noise of the rides.

As she approached a large tree towards the back of the fairgrounds, where the crowd was thinning, she felt the presence of angelic magic and followed it with her first touch of interest. Back here she found darker auras ranging from lustful pinings to rage and the need to fight. Zoheret raised an eyebrow and searched for the source of the magic, intent on stopping it immediately. Probably some upstart new to the city who didn't understand decorum. The bubbles grew thicker and before long she found the source of the magic and sighed irately through her nose.

Of course it was Saraekiel.

She was several paces away from him as he perched on the table causing his mischief. A gaggle of elderly humans, intent on taking their time, passed in front of her and she waited for them to move, feeling no reason to cause a scene. But by the time she found Saraekiel again, he was not alone. It took her a moment to recognize the apparent human standing near him as they spoke, but once she recognized him, a smirk broke out on her lips.

Two for the price of one.

She hadn't seen Chtahzus'aak since the night of the District Leader Meeting, and it was more or less a surprise to see him not only present at the Carnival, but his lips moving and actually speaking to Saraekiel. Zoheret didn't slow her approach, wondering vaguely if her presence would scare the demon off. That would be delicious.

"Gentlemen," she announced herself coolly, looking from one of them to the other, eyes lingering perhaps a second too long on the demon District Leader before turning to Saraekiel.

"Chaos is the spice of life  Chtahzus'aak. You and yours know that more then most." He said with a tight smile as he slid the brush into the bubble solution and twisted the cap closed. He watched the last of the bubbles drift away on the night breeze before turning to greet Zeus. He had been aware of the demonic presence in the tree watching him since he arrived and had been waiting to see if it would make itself known, that it had been Chtahzus'aak however was a surprise. "It's been awhile..."

Before he could say more he both felt her presence and saw her approach from the corner of his eyes. He turned his face towards her so as to be able to watch them both from his perch on the table. Even dressed casual Zoheret was the image of perfection.

Both of them? How , interesting. Had it been planned? Had Zeus only emerged because of her imminent arrival? He narrowed his eyes slightly in suspicion as he smiled warmly. What game was afoot this time? They played him as a willing stalking horse against Jake last time, then left him to hang at the council meeting. What were they up too?. Her lingering gaze on the demon before she focused on him certainly didn't ease his suspicions.

"Zoheret, you look ravishing as always. I must say, I'm surprised to see you here, either of you actually." He said with another smile and a nod at Zeus as he sat his bottle of bubbles beside the figurines on the table. It would seem other entertainments were about to unfold.

He watched Zoheret approach, expression unchanged while she joined them.  If Chtahzus'aak noticed her lingering gaze he did not show it, his only greeting for her a nod before turning his attention back to Saraekiel.

"Are you," he answered lowly, the corner of his mouth pulling into a slight smile.  It was a campaign event, of course he would appear for a moment to see what it entailed.  It was surprising that Saraekiel found it surprising.  "What brings you here?"  He asked, as though indicating that their attendance was equally as unexpected if his was to be.  His gaze sought each of theirs independently but came to rest exclusively on Saraekiel.

At Saraekiel's expected compliment she smiled winningly at him to show her appreciation. Such gestures always seemed to partially make up for his misdeeds and eccentricities. "Come now," she responded to both of their inquiries into the motivations of the others. "Surely we all have stakes in seeing young Mr. Samson succeed in this election." She placed a few kernels of popcorn in her mouth. "Have either of you had the chance to catch sight of the man of the hour yet?" She offered up a wicked smirk but aimed it at neither of them as she looked out into the crowds and had her private thoughts.

"Zoheret is right, as usual" He tipped his head towards Zeus, acknowledging their little game and his capitulation. "I visited his tent earlier. He seemed to have the masses in hand." He had no intentions of telling them why he felt compelled to visit Ben, especially when he himself didn't understand the why of it.

He watched the milling crowds and smiled as he felt his bubbles travel beyond the immediate area, finding more targets and enjoying the sensation of the puddles of chaos spreading and growing.

"The truth of the matter is we can't trust either vampire as leader of central." he said as he turned his attention back to his companions. "Have you seen their campaign promises?" He raised his eyebrow at them both questioningly. He had no intentions of allowing Ben or Jake dictate their rules or agendas to him, nor will he allow them to attempt to take command of the council. Unfortunately opposing them wasn't something he could do alone. He needed these two.

During Saraekiel's declaration of mistrust for the vampires, Zeus' eye glanced to Zoheret before returning to the other dark angel.  While he had his own misgivings, he wanted to know what aroused this belief for Sarakiel.  McCloud's transparent grab for power was enough of a reason for distrust, but Saraekiel was no better in that regard.  Samson was the better choice at face value, but his lack of experience with political leadership and how easily (and like McCloud) he'd been provoked into an emotional outburst gave Chtahzus'aak pause.

Could today's Samson be tomorrow's McCloud?

The campaign promises themselves were similar enough to expect a healthy bit of apathy from the voting pool.  That McCloud's had come so soon after Samson's had not gone unnoticed.  "Of course," he answered with an unreadable tone, though the corners of his lips upturned the slightest as he cast his gaze to the budding chaos below.

"As you both have, I imagine."  He returned his attention to the pair.  "They seem..." he paused, humor glinting in his eyes,  "well thought out."

She cast a quick glare over at the demon as a seemingly pre-recorded, middle-of-the-road, politically correct statement issued like clockwork from him. It was difficult, but Zoheret refrained from rolling her eyes at Chtahzus'aak. A mild annoyance colored her aura for the briefest of moments before she regarded Saraekiel with a dry smirk.

"Yes, it seems both candidates have turned into bleeding hearts overnight," she said calmly, the subtlest hint of a sneer behind her words. "Suddenly there will be supernatural safe spaces and the end of supernatural poverty all across Central, no matter who wins the race. Soon Central will be the cleanest, most well-behaved district in the city. It only took the threat of losing the election to do so."

There was a bitterness in her mouth as she spoke of both Samson and McCloud. What she refrained from mentioning was the effect that all this election would have upon the structure of the supernatural city. Soon all the constituents will want a vote for who runs what district, a problem she had never had before Ben Samson opened his mouth the night he should have been only opening the Academy. She hated to admit it, but Saraekiel was right: neither could be trusted and Samson's campaign promises, which were being sold in every show bag, with every smiling handshake and bite of fried food, were being trusted by the masses. Soon she would be watching her own numbers as contenders tried to take the north-west district from her via popularity contest. She pursed her lips as a frown darkened her features and turned her frustration elsewhere.

"Why are you back here causing mischief with those foolish things?" Zoheret tipped her head towards the bottle of soapy liquid. Without waiting for invitation, she picked up the two small figurines of the melted Angel and the Dark Angel, turning them around in her hand almost boredly. "Shouldn't you be using your powers upon McCloud, instead of thwarting his only competition at his own event?" Her tone was sharper than usual, but a small turning of her lips indicated her playfulness.

He sighed softly with disappointment at Zeus' typical non committal and politically correct response. Trying to work with the creature was like trying to catch and hold a greased pig, it was a slimy, slippery and precarious job.

"This whole voting for leadership thing is a disaster and endangers the political stability of the city, and our own seats of power." He said with a touch of heat and frustration in his tone. The truth was he didn’t overly care about the city, all that mattered was his own freedom and general safety. He would not be beholden to, nor be forced to bow and answer to another. Fuck them all.

Unfortunately unless he wanted to rule the city himself, an idea he found repugnant as he had no desire to rule or be ruled, then he needed to work with these other so called leaders if he wanted to maintain his independence and safety. These two before him offered the best choice, as far as he could tell neither one wished to rule everything and everyone they laid their eyes on, unlike the fucking vampires.

“Both vampires intend to bring changes that will affect us. We three need to join against together and stand against them. We must become a united front, or we will be swept aside.” He had said this to both of them once before and their response had been lukewarm and cagey at best. He would not ask again after tonight. The choice now was theirs.

His lips twitched with amusement as Zoheret fiddled with the bottle of bubble fluid. “Because I am what I am.” He said softly in response to her initial question, a knowing look and a question in his eyes as he looked at her. When was the last time she allowed herself to be what she was? “I would hardly say it was foolish” he looked out over the carnival grounds, his eyes following the Ward officers he could see scurrying around as cries of anger and violence started to reach his ears. Funny how most reacted and gave into anger and rage rather than their carnal passions. “Jake is less of a threat to me, to us, then Ben is. Plus; I was bored.” He answered in response to why he was messing around at the carnival rather than with Jake

"What have either of you two done to meddle or improve this vampiric mess we are facing to our favour?" He asked them both pointedly.
