Title: ALTERNATE: Bite Club
Post by: The Cedar Witch on March 11, 2019, 09:00:21 AM
For Saiketsu

The time was 6:00 pm and Rachel had just gotten out of the shower, wrapped her hair in a towel and went to pick out something to wear.  They were planning to take their favorite Uber to some bar for drinks and to watch some new band play.  And maybe discuss a little business--but nothing too deep.  It was Thursday after all, and while business talk wasn’t completely off limits, there would be no fishing for clients.  Today was about friendship.

Thursdays were sacred--Quinn and Rachel had declared them for brunches, dancing, drinking, smoking, and most importantly no boyfriends, clients, or otherwise.  This was their date night--platonic date night, anyway.  And tonight--tonight they were going to get wasted.  The two had met up for brunch just before noon--as was their routine--and made plans over waffles to meet up later for more fun.  Since she had agreed to cover a short shift for one of the girls who’s kid got sick that morning.

Her third-floor apartment was presentable enough.  Laundry was piling up in her room a little bit but that was pretty much it.  She didn't have to worry about Quinn coming over though--he was basically her family.  Throwing on a nearly see-through low collar black tee-shirt and dark wash jean short-shorts, she pulled out her cell phone and started a video chat with her best friend.

“Quinn!  Are you heading over here yet or what?”  She grinned, taking the towel out of her damp hair.

"Bitch, I am nearly here already!" Quinn said with as much drama as he could fit in a single sentence. The Uber driver - Pete C. in the gray 2003 Honda Civic - looked in the rearview mirror like Quinn had three heads. Quinn saw it out of the corner of his eye and ignored him. "I am pulling up in front of your building as we speak!"

The human's eyes were dry as fuck, rimmed and tinged with red. Everything was just a little funny and when he stepped out of the car, he remembered just how high he actually was. Excitement was building in his chest and he was interested in dancing tonight, to drinking, and smoking more. He loved his Thursdays off. "I'm coming up." He ended the video and started into the apartment building.

He took the stairs two at a time, feeling like a superhero, a thought that made him giggle as he finally reached Rachel's door. He didn't bother to knock, but opened the door and walked right in. "Rache, I'm here!" She wasn't in the living room but he could hear her moving around in the bathroom, most likely doing her makeup or hair.

"Heeyyyy!"  Rachel had just finished running some product through her hair to accentuate the texture of her drying waves.  She decided to go with a little eyeliner--nothing dramatic.  She hated taking off a shit-ton of makeup at the end of the night so nothing too extravagant.

"Oh my god, you're already stoned!"  She took a few quick strides over to him and threw her arms around his shoulders and squeezing him tightly. "I fucking love you, your eyes are so red right now."  Giggling, she stepped back from him and moved into the kitchen toward the refrigerator.

"I have a surprise for you," sing-song, eyes sparkling as she retrieved something from the freezer and walked back to him.  "Here, for now, for later, or whatever."  She said with a wink, pressing a one of the two small foil-wrapped chocolates she had retrieved into his hand.

"Now, since you fucking started without me, you bitch," sticking her tongue out, she dashed into her bedroom for a little pregaming herself.  Half-smoked (well, mostly smoked) from last night, but still some green around the edges of the bowl.  Harsh as a bitch (mainly because she torched it) and made her cough, sputtering and scrambling for a water bottle

"Okay, I'm good now.  You need anything before we go?  Pete's still outside, right?"

"Yup, ready and waiting," Quinn said as he unwrapped a chocolate. He could have kissed her. A genuine, hand-made, high potency weed truffle in the palm of his hand. Sure, it would take about an hour to hit him, but by then he hoped to be partying anyway. He had his bowl in the meantime and life was otherwise good. Everything is great when you're stoned. Quinn popped the chocolate into his mouth and let it dissolve slowly, wondering how strong it would be later when the high hit.

"Oh my god, Rache, do you remember the time I came over and we each had, like, two of these and we tried to watch a scary movie?" He laughed remembering how they couldn't figure out how to find the remote without leaving the blankets over their eyes. That was the last time they ever did that. "These will always remind me of that. What did we watch, do you remember?"

"Oh my fucking God, yes.  That was the fucking Ring.  Never fucking again.  And I made you sleep over every night for a week after that."  Rachel shuddered, bending down by the door to put on a pair of cute black flats.  She grabbed her keys and held out a hand to Quinn, pulling him out the door with her.

The two made their way down the stairs slowly, talking in whispers, giggling and shushing one another at intervals.  By the time they reached the bottom, Rachel was sure that it had been at least a half an hour and was convinced that Pete had left without them.  But of course it was actually only a few minutes and the driver was still there.

"After you," she said, opening the car door for Quinn and gesturing dramatically for him to enter.

Quinn slid inside from the curbside, all the way over to the far window to let Rachel have some room. When Rachel stepped in after him, he put his seatbelt on and addressed Pete, the Uber driver, grandly. "Pete, the Thursday Usual, please." He clapped his hands twice, commandingly in a very dramatic gesture.

Pete, the Uber driver, rolled his eyes at Quinn and laughed. This was their routine. Thursdays were sacred to each of them in different ways. Pete, who was still in college, did the majority of his driving on Thursday nights when other kids were out getting wasted. Quinn had always reserved Thursdays off from dancing and waiting tables. Rachel rarely had work, so several years ago Quinn and Rachel had decided that Thursdays would be the day for drunken dancing and high conversations about how to change the world. When all they had was each other, in some of the darkest parts of their lives, Quinn was convinced that Thursdays were the thing that helped him survive. Pete was now part of their tradition. He was a young guy who both Rachel and Quinn had bonded with from the very first ride. They all traded life advice and cheered each other in casual ways. Best of all, they had dance parties in the car together because Pete, the Uber driver had an amazing taste in music. Tonight, it was Migos.

Pete drove them to Venture and dropped them off in the queue after fighting with Quinn about how much of a tip he had given the kid. Pete smiled, took the money and drove off into the sunset, beeping twice at them as he left. "I could get that kid a job at the Pompeii in a fucking second if he let me," Quinn said mournfully, watching Pete drive off and join traffic. "He'd make so much more money with us. Plus I'd be able to look at his ass every night."

Rachel popped the chocolate in her mouth before they got inside, snaking her arm around Quinn's.

"You always say that.  He would never go for it."  She giggled  "Oh my god, but if he did what do you think his stage name would be?"

The two made their way past the coat check queue and to the upstairs portion of the club.  It was still early but filling slowly with humans, and Rachel was in a hurry to get to their favorite booth.

"I know," Quinn said with a mournful look twisting his face into a slight pucker. "He's too pure for this world. We would eat him alive."

"Let's be honest, he'd probably go with something like 'Chase' or 'Alejandro' or something." The thought was highly amusing to him. All the new kids went with something cliche like that, thinking they'd make more money or that they were clever.

The music was the perfect volume for him right now and he rode his high in a dreamy state of bliss as they sat and waited for their drinks. He wanted to dance tonight, but wasn't ready for it just yet. He needed more liquor and more bud. "I love this city," Quinn said happily, swaying to the rhythm of the song overhead and all around. "It's like the one place in the world where you and I have a pretty much equal chance of getting picked up. Do you even know how rare that is?"

Rachel giggled, pulling Quinn along faster--well, at least it felt faster to her--and finally reaching their booth.

"Oh!  That reminds me.  I know we're not talking business tonight but!"  She whipped out her cellphone.  "Please let me show you the work that Lindsey did on the website!"  Rachel didn't wait for an answer because she intended to bug him until he let her.  She scrolled through some of the messenger conversation with Lindsey until she found the screenshots she was looking for.

"Check this shit out"  she passed the phone to Quinn.  "She said that it's all going to be completely private--password only--and you can only make an account if someone on the website referred you.  She's setting it up to look like some dating website so we can have our own profiles and shit"  Rachel was positively beaming.

"And!  She added some options for different contract lengths--oh, but she wanted to double check with us about that."  She sat back, face red with excitement.

"So what do you think?"

Quinn groaned. He knew she was going to talk business, even though it was strictly off limits. There was no stopping her! Oh well. Quinn looked over the beginnings of a dating website that looked similar to Tinder or OKC, but was actually the start of their new business venture together.

One night, very much like tonight, where he and Rachel were stoned and eating Chinese food at her apartment, they had gotten into a philosophical debate about the legalities of being fed upon - something they were both fond of - and the protections that the city offered its human population. While being seduced, fed from, and fucked were all amazing things, the problem was finding a reliable source who didn't just leave them high and dry, or kill them. From those ethical issues and Rachel's sheer willpower, Bite Club was formed - as a joke at first, paying homage to a movie they loved to watch at the time. At first Quinn rolled his eyes at the idea - always the pessimist. But Rachel sped forward with her thoughts, reached out to people, gathered a crew of interested subjects - mostly the regulars from the local vampire bars - and began this project. They had planned on changing the name of the project, but had never gotten around to it. Now it was gaining popularity, to Quinn's dismay.

He took the phone from her to try to get a better look at the first layout of the website that the designer Lindsey had created. "I like it so far," he said foggily, reluctant to get into business on a Thursday night, "but we have to include something like a report button too for any asshole who's abusing the system or being an ass. I think that the password restricted thing is nice, though. Totally needed. Is there going to be like some large spreadsheet like thing that tells us who is with who?"

"I think a report button is there somewhere?"  Rachel pulled the phone back, rubbed her eyes and squinted.  She couldn't find it and shrugged.

"Uhh... Yeah I'm not sure about that last bit.  I know she's working with that programmer chick she's sleeping with so I dunno about the technicalities and stuff."  She giggled, then whispered, "Shit, I think I'm stoned.  This is hard."  The music was getting increasingly distracting and more people were filling the club.  Rachel closed her eyes and leaned her head back against the cushioned booth to concentrate.  She didn't want to get into the details of business stuff, but was very excited about the progress on the website.  How to wrap things up?

"We'll have to do a big meeting or something with them soon so we can uh, iron all that shit out."  She said foggily, opening her eyes and looking back at her best friend.
