Awelfor Manor Description
« on: June 17, 2008, 12:30:19 PM »
Awelfor Manor
Inhabited by Odessa "Sonya" Turkevich

Awelfor Manor is located on a private dirt road in a section of thin forest bordering the ocean cliffs.  It sits on approximately seven acres of land, though it is another six or so on either side until the nearest neighbor.  The land that Sonya owns is surrounded by a large rock wall, ending abruptly at the small cliff before the beach.  A large wrought-iron gate blocks any unwanted visitors from approaching the house.  The gate has an obvious camera perched at the top left, angled downward.  Any motion approaching the gate within one hundred feet will trigger a silent alarm alerting the hired hand Sonya has watching the camera feed from the garage inside.  The vampire herself has a remote to open the gate at will whenever there is not someone else watching it for her.

The property is well-manicured in the areas that trees are cleared.  The grass is always kept closely cropped and green.  Bordering the house and along the circular flagstone driveway are various bushes, flowers, and topiaries distributed with the highest quality landscaping in mind.  The driveway itself can fit about eight to ten vehicles with enough room for another to navigate by them (during parties, guests have parked anywhere from the front lawn by the gate to lining up along the side of the dirt road and walking).  The driveway circles an old-world style fountain that is kept clean of debris and offending vegetation.

The house itself is rather new, it's stone exterior not dirtied by erosion or the passing of time.  It stands two stories above ground with a basement beneath.  The entire house has been outfitted with light-activated window shutters, purchased from Damien's Aquilla Industries.  The house is situated off of the shore, though not so close as to be in danger of any heavy damage caused by salt water.

About the Staff:

Sonya has a few different non-humans hired to do various household tasks.

One pair is responsible for keeping the house clean.  They are discrete and quick, possess their own keys and come every week or two in order to maintain the cleanliness of the house.  They are also responsible for all of the washing and dry cleaning of Sonya's clothing.

She has two demons designated for security and valet, who rotate responsibilities and shifts.  They also have their own keys to the house.  At least one of them is on the property at a time, hanging out in the lounge area in the garage.  Much of the security is automated now.  Cameras and motion sensors are placed around the perimeter of the property.  When the sensors are tripped, they switch the camera feed on, sending a notification to their phones to check the feeds.  As such, these two are never truly "off the clock" though they have a relatively easy (well-paying) job.  They are also responsible for cleaning up (and covering up) any of Sonya's "messes" as quickly and efficiently as possible and taking the cars for maintenance when needed.

She contracts out for landscaping.

Note: if anyone is interested in taking these NPCs as characters of their own, please feel free to send me a message.

The Deck and Back Yard
Colors:
Details: Large inground saltwater pool, heavy wood deck furniture, bright manicured grass, beautifully landscaped and meticulously maintained flower garden

The deck has room for several tables and chairs which make an appearance if she is hosting a party.  Otherwise, there are four chairs surrounding a round wooden table on the left side of the deck.  The pool is a short walk from the deck and off to the right, surrounded by flagstone.  There are a few chairs and a small table by the pool.

To the left a bit of distance away from the deck is the flower garden.  There are stone benches and statues, a water feature, several ornamental trees and hedges, tall ornamental grasses, and flowers--some of which open only at night.  Different plants are in bloom at different times throughout the year and the garden is scarcely lacking color at any given point.  It is large enough to wander with spaces to sneak away and hide in.

There is a moderately-large field between the back deck beginning of Sonya's private beach.  The transition between grass and sand is marked by a short wood fence.

The Garage
The floor of this three-car garage is finished with a textured, high-gloss epoxy.  It houses two new black Escalade hybrids with heavily tinted windows and leather seats, fully customized with a built-in GPS system and satellite radio.  The remainder of the space is used for storage of things relating but not limited to car maintenance, pool and deck maintenance, landscaping tools, power tools for home repairs and the like.  All of the maintenance is done by someone Sonya has hired.  There is also a special lounge room area for whoever is on for security or valet that day.  There is a TV, a couch, and some other things for comfort and entertainment.

The Foyer
Colors: light hardwood floors, cool white walls
Details: impressive chandelier

The first thing you notice upon walking in is a large portrait of Sonya's sire that hangs on the wall on the outside of the staircase, facing the front door.  He was a serious and intimidating man.

The Living Room
Colors: light hardwood floors, cool white walls
Details: recessed lighting, black leather couches, neutral throw-pillows, glass coffee table

Visitors are typically seen in this front living room.  A landscape painting of the Carpathians hangs on one wall, a portrait of her fledge Nadia on the other.

The Dining Room
Colors: light hardwood floors, cool white walls
Details: impressive chandelier with dimmer settings, modern wood table and chairs

This is a rarely-used room.  Sometimes she will do paperwork here.

The Study
Colors: light hardwood floors and walls
Details: dark leather chairs, ambient and recessed lighting, fancy lamps, built-in bookcases, a hefty-looking desk and chair

Sonya has a surprisingly impressive collection of books here.  Though she doesn't typically sit down to read.  She also stores some paintings here that she is intending on selling.

First Floor Bathroom
Colors: black octagonal tile floor, white tile walls
Details: glass shower doors, white vessel sink sitting atop a wood counter

The Grand Room
Colors: white tile floor, cool white walls
Details: fireplace, Grand piano, baroque fainting couch, black leather sofa and chairs

A large, highly-polished Grand Piano is the centerpiece of this open area, situated off to the left.  An ashtray sits on top.  Seating is arranged around or facing the piano, but without hindering pathways to the back porch.

The Breakfast Nook and Sun Room
Colors: white tile floor, cool white walls
Details: fireplace, black leather chairs

The "breakfast nook" area was left completely open.  Recently, Sonya's set up a few easels for painting downstairs as an alternative to using her upstairs studio space.  There is some canvas spill-over into the sunroom.  Sunroom has a few comfortable oversized chairs and the odd end-table.

The Kitchen and Pantry
Colors: dark granite floors and countertops, white subway tile backsplashes, white drawers and cupboards with black hardware
Details: recessed lighting, updated stainless appliances, stainless steel sinks, hand-blown glass pendant lights hanging over the island

The kitchen, impeccably clean, is obviously unused.  The pantry is empty, save for a small collection of moderately priced wine for human guests.  She has a wine cooler cabinet as well to chill bottles if desired.  The refrigerator is usually empty, save a handful of blood bags.

The Laundry Room
Colors: white subway-tile on the back wall, light grey cabinets and trim, dark granite floors and counters
Details: Utility sink, recessed lighting, black appliances

A laundry chute leads directly from the master bedroom to the laundry room.  A basket is positioned directly underneath to catch any clothing.  The staff that takes care of Sonya's cleaning are also responsible for her laundry.

Master Suite:
None, save the housekeeping and Sonya, are ever allowed in here.

Master Bedroom
Colors: light grey hardwood floors, charcoal walls
Details: recessed and accent lighting, queen-sized heavy wood four-post bed with sheer curtains

There are a few books of poetry and writings of several philosophers on her bedside table.  An antique roll-top writing desk sits against the right-most window.  She has several sets of nice stationery, several different colored fountain pens, some with feathers, a collection of stamps, and a box of old letters from Damien and Nadia.  The desk is usually kept neat, but right now there are unfinished letters in various languages along with writings of complete gibberish scattered around the floor of the desk.

Master Bathroom
Colors: black tile walls, gleaming white marble floors
Details: glass shower doors, double shower head, deep clawfoot tub

It is rumored that she occasionally bathes in blood.

Master Walk-In Closet
Colors: light grey hardwood floors, white walls
Details: large mirror at the end of the room with an ottoman for sitting

Meticulously organized, lots of shoes.

Studio Area
Colors: light grey hardwood floors, charcoal walls
Details: recessed lighting, fireplace, white drop cloths, a utility sink, some shelves for storage, rows of blank canvases stacked against the wall

Off to the right of the main part of the bedroom.  Housekeeping has been instructed to never touch anything in the studio space.  Sonya keeps this space as clean as she wants it when she wants it.  Currently, it is a mess.  Charcoal drawings were strewn about, half-finished abstract paintings on various easels with paintbrushes broken and scattered around on the dropcloths beneath.

Bedroom Two
Colors: neutral white walls, dark hardwoods, creamy white area rugs, thin white curtains
Details: recessed lighting, many mirrors

This room is a converted walk-in closet and used to house many dresses, but the walls are now lined with empty hangers.  In the absence of dresses, the room has taken on a chilling atmosphere with nothing but a wall of masquerade masks directly facing the door.

Bedroom Three
Colors: off-white walls, dark hardwoods, white area rugs, white trim, beige accents
Details: a queen-sized bed with grey blanket and sheets, medium-tone wood bedroom set, one ceiling light, lamps

This spare bedroom is rarely used.

Bedroom Four
Colors: dark hardwoods, white walls, black curtains
Details: a queen-sized bed with black comforter and sheets, modern dark wood bedroom set, one ceiling light, lamps

This room has had a sizable hole patched in the wall that goes through to the exterior of the house, and you can tell if you examine the wall closely (the paint doesn't quite match and the patch isn't completely flush with the surrounding wall).  The dresser and closet currently contain some of Nikolai's clothing, now musty from sitting untouched for almost two years.  Sonya hasn't set foot in this room since returning and wouldn't remember who the clothing belongs to.

Other Bathrooms
Colors: light granite floors, beige walls, off-white sinks
Details: glass shower/tub doors, large bathroom mirror

Basement
« Reply #3 on: March 02, 2011, 02:42:57 AM »

The door leading downstairs has a separate lock.  Sonya is the only one with a key.

Basement
Cement floors and walls have been treated in a way that makes it look almost polished.  The basement as a whole is relatively bare.  There are rows and rows of paintings in storage, some dating very far back.

Bathroom
Everything appears to be made out of stainless steel.  There is a large drain in the floor.

"The Vault"
This is a fire-proof fallout shelter type room.  Theoretically, one could hide here in event of a house fire and come out unscathed.  It looks very similar to a bank vault.  Inside she keeps a rather impressive store of wealth.  No one is allowed in this room, Sonya is the only one with the combination to open it.

"The Other Dress Closet"
This is where Sonya keeps her oldest collection.  It is outfitted with the best equipment necessary to keep them preserved.  These dresses are not worn.  Occasionally she will sell one to a museum or a collector.
