THE HOUSE ON ALCOTT ROAD

Damien Evans had always been on the hunt for a new house. Mysteriously enough, a fledgling found this ‘abandoned’ home right in the middle of suburbia. The former inhabitants were of upper class and decided to leave behind much of the furniture that now furnishes the house. The street itself is very basic and made of asphalt, but is one of the more rural roads of the area. From North Main Street, one turns left onto Jacob Terrace, left onto Maple Avenue, and then right onto Alcott Road, a long stretch of “rural” suburbia where the houses are anywhere between an half a mile (805 m) and an eighth of a mile (201 m) apart. 3106 is about four-and-a-half miles down on the right, noted only by a mail box in front of a concrete driveway.

The House and Grounds
A concrete driveway leads through a small canopy of maples and pines up into the property until it reaches the automatic garage some distance later. The house itself is made of wood with white vinyl sidings. With two and a half stories, it is impressively classical and tends to give the on-looking an impression of a refurbished plantation house. The house’s square face looks down upon the driveway and front lawns from atop a slight hillock. As it approaches the house, the driveway splits sprouts a cement arm where a narrower drive circles in front of the portico for better access to parking. Green grass sprouts from just behind the canopy of trees up to the back yard, where a small forest grows.

The property is bordered by trees of all kinds on all sides. Green grass grows where other, more formal plant life will not. Varying short shrubs and bushes border the house itself in beds of mulch. The previous owners of the house had planted several flower bushes on the sides and back of the house, so lilacs and roses sprout in the spring under the right conditions.

The back lawn is much smaller than the front lawn as much of the property is covered in trees. Back here there is a terrace where some outdoor furniture has been placed and is even occasionally used. There is a large fish pond and a birdbath, along with a moderately-sized shed full of all the proper landscaping tools to care for the outside of the house.

The Interior: Ground Floor

The Foyer
Colors: Sand-colored with medium-stained wood trim and borders, accented with white.
Details: White stone flooring tiles, swirled texture-painted ceilings, open to second floor.
A thick black door opens inwards into the house and into the Foyer as the main entrance. The foyer stretches up to the upper level of the house, so that any person at the railings on the upper level can see down to any entering guests. There are few pieces of furniture in this room besides a table near the front door, but there are a few simple paintings on the walls. Off directly to the right, there is a simple doorway where one can enter the living room. Near the living room doors, there is the curved stair case. The railing is a polished medium wood stain that accents the foyer beautifully. The stairs creak sometimes but acceptably so. The stairs themselves are the same flavor of wood and accented with white. White French doors open into the study on the left side of the foyer. Near the stairs and at the other end of the foyer there is an open door frame which leads into the rest of the house. The walls which lead into the family room and through the center of the house are this same color. Any doors that are passed are white as well.

The Library
Colors: Deep brown-red, accented with off-white
Details: Hard-wood flooring, white ceiling, overhead light and fan
Filled with bookshelves and a simple couch, the library is perfect for either an avid book-reader or an extra guest. Bookshelves line one of the walls and half of another, and lamps are placed for convenience, reading, or studying. Complete with a closet, a large desk, and full ocean-themed bathroom, the library is perfect for many uses. The two windows of the study are framed in thick, off-white curtains for the privacy of the guests.

The Living Room
Colors: Dull, neutral green walls with white trim and borders.
Details: Polished hard-wood flooring, texture-swirled ceilings
There is a large fireplace on the eastern wall of the living room which most residents would take pleasure in having. Conveniently enough, Damien has decided to place all the furniture of the room as far away from the fireplace as possible. This fireplace is hardly ever lit for more than obvious reasons. There are two brown leather sofas in this room which are in very good shape. One sits against the wall facing the fireplace while the other sits under the two windows on the south wall, facing into the dining room. There are matching leather chairs spaced between these two couches. On the floor beneath the sofas, chairs, and matching coffee tables, there is a large Persian rug which was left behind by the former residents. Thick off-white (and slat blinds) curtains keep the sun out of this room when pulled closed, ideal for any vampire guest who may be there during the day. On the walls are various paintings of landscapes, or shelves with trinkets that Damien hardly concerns himself with. The room is spacious and is used rarely be the current owners.

The Dining Room
Colors:Dull, neutral green walls with white trim and borders.
Details: Hard-wood flooring continued from the living room, white ceilings.
There is no door between the dining and living rooms; instead the rooms are separated by a columned entry way. A long antique table fills much of the room. The wood is carved from hard-woods, glossed and polished so that any person can see their reflection in the blackish finish. It is long enough to fit three or four chairs of the same hard wood and complimentary design on each side, one chair at each head of the table. In the corner near the doorway into the kitchen there is an armoire filled with crystal glasses and good china. The armoire, its contents, and the table were all left behind by the former occupants. Over the table is a dangling light fixture that is a very small chandelier which still cost a pretty penny. The one window is curtained heavily by accenting off-white drapery which can also help to keep sunlight out.

The Family Room
Colors: Light tan walls, darker hue than the foyer, off-white trim.
Details: White stone-tile flooring, texture-swirled ceiling.
After walking through the foyer, one passes a few doors (one which leads to a closet, one to the study, one to the bathroom near the guest bedroom, and one to the cellar) to enter into the family room. With very similar design to the foyer, the family room is the most used public room in the house. There is a large, flat screen television above the rarely-lit fireplace, which tends to be the center of attention in this room. Brown couches line the southern and take up space on the floor towards the western most walls while a loveseat makes the half-circle complete. Against the eastern wall is another bookcase with several varieties of books. On the southern wall, near the door way there is a small cupboard where some folding chairs and other such things are stored. In the half-circle of furniture there is a large wooden coffee table which doubles as a foot rest for guests like Pierre DuSang. The windows are framed with off-white curtains which keep the sun out of the room during the day.  The couch on the southern wall pulls out into a bed and several of the sections on the other couch recline. On the far west wall are two windows that face out onto the Piazza,

The Piazza - Level One
Made entirely of strong pine and painted white, the Piazza is very similar to a large porch that runs a good length of the house. This particular one is two floors, a staircase towards the front of the house that leads to the upper level. It is covered and supported by columns. For furniture, there is a swing towards the front of the house, facing the back so anyone using this swing would face the back yard. Scattered also on this first floor are pieces of outdoor furniture like two couches of summery patterns in blue and yellow, a glass coffee table and other such unimportant things.

The Sun Room
Colors: Walls of pale yellow, accented with a muted tropical green, white trim.
Details: Vaulted ceilings which reach up to the second floor, white stone-tile flooring
The sun room has six windows and is, for Damien and all of his guests, perhaps the least-favorite room in the house. These circle-head windows stretch almost a story and a half to wreak havoc on any unsuspecting vampire almost anywhere in the house. In this portion of the house, much simpler furniture has been placed – a small wooden table that seats four. The long green curtains that cover the window do little to keep the sun out. On the western wall is a sliding glass door which leads to a terrace where outdoor furniture has been placed.

The Kitchen
Colors: A muted tropical green, accented with mint greens and white trim.
Details: White stone-tile flooring, swirled texture ceiling.
One of the least used rooms of the house, the kitchen and the sunroom make up one large room. The kitchen is on the very western side of the house before the garage. Along the northern and eastern walls is the majority of the countertop and cabinet space. On the north wall there is the refrigerator (which is stocked with only a few items like apples, ice cream, and condiments for the only inhabitant that actually eats food), and a sink under a window draped in mint green drapes. On the eastern wall is a dishwasher, an electric stove top and an oven. There is a small pantry behind a white door and an island in the middle of the kitchen complete with a breakfast bar. Green vinyl stools park themselves around the edge of the island. On the eastern side of the kitchen is a hall which leads to a side door and a set of stairs that lead upwards. A simple lamp hangs from the ceiling over the island and provides one of the only artificial light sources in the room.

The Garage
Going east through the kitchen brings you to a few more doors. On the left is a coat closet and on the right is an entrance way to the driveway. Directly straight is the doorway to the four car garage. This is a spacious garage that seems almost too big for the two residents. There is enough storage within the garage to hold just about anything that Damien may need to hide. The garage doors are automatic and electric. Often times there is Damien\'s and Pierre DuSang\'s car parked there. Off towards the back of the garage there is another small room for storage.

The Second Floor

General
It is rare that the general population who enter the house will ascend the stairs to the second level without Damien or Pierre\'s consent. While there are spare rooms upstairs for guests of Damien\'s to reside during the day, it is much more likely for any guests to room downstairs on the first level, or even in the cellar. If a guest is invited into the bedrooms upstairs, it inferes trust and good character.

Hallway
Colors: Sand-colored with medium-stained wood trim and borders, accented with white.
Details: Short white carpeting, average width, open in certain places to lower floor below, swirled textured ceiling
Upon reaching the top of the stairs of the foyer, one begins to notice that many of the places in the hallway overlook the first floor and are rimmed by railings of the same wood and finish as the stairs. The hallway overlooks part of the foyer, the sun room (to the dismay of Damien), and the stairs near the garage. As a result of its openness, the hallway tends to be bright even without the overhead light on. Fortunately enough, Damien has taken it upon himself to put curtains over the railing near the sunroom, blocking off a good percentage of the light. Towards the end of the hallway, near the sunroom balconey, there is a utility closet for washing/drying clothes.

Damien\'s Room
Colors: Deep neutral blue (almost black), accented with neutral blues and gray-ish browns
Details: dark hard-wood floors, white ceiling with overhead fan, specialized light-block windows
While the colors haven\'t changed much since the previous owners had moved out, Damien has spent his time, and a little bit of money, making the room his domain. While it first appears to be a bedroom fit for a king, it is more security headquarters of the house than one would frist guess. A king-sized bed sits as the main component of the room, situated against the center of the west wall. Facing the bed at the east wall is a large dresser made of dark polished wood where he keeps all of his clothing. Above the larger dresser is a huge flat-screen television which is rarely used by the vampire. On either side of the bed, dark polished tables stand and allow Damien to keep security things close at hand: a remote control of the security system, a moderate sized (loaded) hand gun, and other such things that would most likely scare any good natured inhabitant of the house. Under the windows of the south wall, there is a long bench of dark wood and blue cusioning where one can sit and look out the windows or sleep, though it isn\'t often used for that purpose. Against the northern-most wall there is a decent-sized mirror that reflects just about the entire room, along with a door to Damien\'s bathroom. Directly across from the bedroom\'s entrance is the entrance to the upper level Pizza. It is a heavy sliding glass door with a dead bolt and thick black curtains to keep out any eyes or light.

Damien\'s Bathroom and Closet
Colors: black and white marble, accented with blues
Details: Marble countertops, black marble floors, dark hard-wood floors in closet, white ceiling
It is obvious that Damien\'s bathroom has cost the previous inhabitants a pretty penny. Above the marble countertops on the west wall is all mirror clean and always streak-free. All of the faucets and the like are modern-looking chrome fixtures. There is a double-shower, as well as a separate whirlpool bath (which is rarely used by the owner of the house). The toilet is separated by a slight partition from the rest of the bathroom in true European style, even if it isn\'t used often by Damien. The closet is separated by a thick black door. On Damien\'s command, this door has been insulated with sheets of lighter weight metal. The door is nearly impenetrable by anyone younger than Damien. There is a security code on the outside, as well as two deadbolts on the inside of the door. Inside the closet, there is a small chandelier hanging from the center of the ceiling which is rarely turned on. In the center of this small room is a chaise lounge for someone to spend the day on when the other rooms are... unavailable. Against the east wall, where clothes should hang, there is another large screen television, though this one is close-circuited for all of the cameras on the property. Damien can view his estate from eight different angles.

Piazza - Level Two
Walking out onto the Piazza, one sees white railings, white columns and simple furniture. On the second layer of the piazza, there is a simple dark green couch against the outside of the west wall, along with a swing towards the back of the house, near ther railing. When he is not busy, Damien often comes out here to think.

Storm\'s Room
Colors: Warm violet walls, accented with richer violets, dull sandy-beige trim.
Details: White carpeting, deep violet area rug, white ceiling with ceiling fan. Specialized light-block windows. Locks on the door.
Upon walking into Storm\'s room, directly to the left is a door which leads to a private bathroom. A short hallway brings you to the better portion of Storm\'s room. The two windows are covered in thick blinds and deep violet curtains  to block out any sunlight during the day, making it safe enough for any vampire to venture in (though Damien would never allow it). A wooden book case stands between the two windows on the south wall, stocked with well known titles of such authors like Anne Rice and Jane Austin among others; Kitty-cornered in the southwest corner is a comfortable dark purple arm chair and a reading lamp for Storm to spend her time. There is a large wooden dresser with a mirror against the west wall filled with neatly folded and organized clothing. On the opposite side of the room, with the head against the south wall, is a full-sized bed with a matching wooden frame, topped with soft white sheets and a deep violet comforter. The bed, though rarely used for sleeping, has at least four pillows of matching color-scheme and many stuffed animals that occupy at least 40% of the bed itself. Because of this, the room looks like it belongs to a child. On the north wall directly opposite the foot of the bed is a desk and a chair, mainly used for drawing and anything else that may require a flat surface. The desk is typically kept neat, supporting a small stereo, a pencil sharpener, a sketchbook, a pencil holder, and whatever other art supplies Storm may use. To the left of the desk is a closet, more spacious then may have been necessary for the occupant.

Storm\'s bathroom
Color: Walls of a muted cobalt with vanilla trim and accents.
Details: Dark mosaic tile flooring, fluffy black rug, locks on the door.
After walking into Storm\'s private bathroom, to the immediate left there is a double sink with a porcelain counter top separating the two. On the counter top are miscellaneous hair products, deodorant, lotion, perfume, razors, and the like. While it is cluttered, it is anything but messy. Beyond this, in the north east corner of the room, is a porcelain toilet near the only window in the bathroom. The same blinds block the sun from this room as do the blinds in Storm\'s bedroom. Directly opposite the toilet, there is a shower set back into the wall, a glass door separating it from the rest of the bathroom. To the left of this, against the south wall, is a towel rack supplied with fluffy white towels.

Spare Room
Colors: Muted blue with dull beige trim. Accented with blues and greens.
Details: Off-white carpetting, white ceiling fan, white ceiling, specialized light-block windows, locks on the door.
Fondly known as Pierre\'s room by the inhabitants, this spare bedroom may as well be a taken bedroom for Damien\'s first successful fledgling. The room is simple and appears to be a guest bedroom with a few of Pierre\'s touches. A full-sized bed with a dark blue comforter and mahogony tones at the north wall, a small bedside table, a mahogany bureau at the west wall, and a small sitting couch under the windows to the east. The windows are framed in dark blue curtains to keep the light out, of course.

Recreation/Sitting Room
Colors: Navy blue with white trim, accents in brownish grays and dull reds
Details: White carpetting, ash-tray indented ceiling, specialized light-block windows, ceiling fans, persian rug in the center of the floor
A very open room, the Recreation room serves many purposes. There is a televisiom/entertainment center kitty-cornered in the northeastern corner, two pull-out beige couches on the southern wall, and a pool table in the northwestern corner of the room. The window seats are cushioned with dull red seats and curtained with thick gray-brown curtains. To the west of the room is a set of stairs that lead to the first floor, with railings of polished wood and white trim.

The Basement

Locked and bolted at all times, the basement is designed to be a type of make-shift haven for vampires. There are no windows and only two ways of getting into or out of the basement, both of which are kept tightly locked by the owner himself.

The first entrance is in the hallway on the main floor under the stairs. From there, the steps leading downwards into a narrow hallway which opens up into a dark steel-plated room known as the Blood room. This is a make-shift hospital for vampires which had been convered since Damien bought the house. Complete with a mini fridge typically stocked with plenty of packaged blood, deep-basined tub for bathing, and dozens of different types of surgical equipment, this underground cave is perfect for any injured vampire, which is Damien\'s main concern.

Beyond the Blood room, as Damien and his fledglings have so aptly named it, is another narrow hallway. This hallway holds five more rooms, one of which is a conference room with a simple black table and fourteen matching leather chairs. The floor is a vinyl covering with a steel drain in the middle, mirroring the rest of the basement. Of the other four rooms, three are baren bedrooms with nothing more than a simple twin-sized mattresses on the floor with a pillow and wool blanket, and a chest for belongings. The five and last room is a bathroom with nothing more than a shower stall and a sink and mirror.

At the end of the hallway there is a short set of stairs which leads to a door to the back of the house near the patio.
