Saraekiel narrowed his eyes slightly as he considered how best to answer. He was an unknown variable with no ties to the current power houses of the city. The truth was he had never intended nor aspired to be a leader anything. Leadership tied you down, took away your freedom. It came with too many responsibilities and required diplomacy and a political finesse that he didn’t have the patience for; but he would rather lead then kneel at someone’s feet. He felt he had no choice, not really
Perhaps honestly would serve him better than political maneuvering.
“My argument is relatively simple. The way I see it the only viable choice is myself. Another District leader could add the north to their already existing territories, but I believe that would only further destabilize an already fracturing community thanks to Jake McCloud’s recent antics. By claiming the North, I ascertain my own autonomy and freedom and prevent any further territory expansion by other already established leaders. You said it yourself, Charon. Jake McCloud is unpredictable, violently ambitious and ultimately untrustworthy. I at least can promise a more peaceful, stable and cooperative leadership then one that would be provided by the affore mentioned Mr McCloud or a demon constituency; which as far as I can tell are the only other choices available.”
He leaned back into the chair as far as he found comfortable and smiled slightly. “I will be investing quite a bit of money into the North, which in turn will bring revenue to the entire city; hopefully.” He shrugged slightly, business, like politics, could be like the sea; ever changing and unpredictable. “You are right however. The North doesn’t currently offer much in the way of population growth or business opportunity, being mainly made up by low-end warehouses and factories. However, if my new infrastructure plans go through that will change. “
He had yet to receive final conformation and go ahead from the Mayor for his plans and no doubt there might be some environmental issues, but humans were greedy, and he had money to spare. He didn’t foresee too many issues with his plans going ahead.
“As for the endorsement, I don’t need it exactly. The remaining members of the werewolf pack of the North has agreed to stand behind me, their new alpha will answer to me and they to their alpha. They will be my muscle. I also have a long and distinguished relationship with the head of a rather large shifter clan, they will be my new Eyes and Ears. I also have the Dark Wolf Clan in my territory” His lip curled slightly in distaste. The precepts of this misbegotten shifter clan disgusted him, but he was determined they would either work for him and have a place within the north or he would raise their patch of woodland to the very ground.
There was also the Unseelie Sidhe, but those negotiations were still ongoing and very uncertain. He felt no need to mention it
“So, you see, your endorsements aren’t exactly required, I already have the acceptance and backing from the Northern supernatural community to be their leader. However, as I mentioned earlier, I feel taking the North without first informing at least you two would not only be foolish but disrespectful as well, since we are going to be neighbours. And by telling you of my intention before the completion of my plans, rather than just disregarding how my actions might affect you all and doing as I please, I hope I have demonstrated that I am someone whom you could possibly work with and therefore would make a better choice of leader than other less accommodating candidates.”
