Arik tilted his head curiously as Jake told him that, in a few weeks, if all was going well he wanted him to work for him. Or with him. It wasn't clear which and there was a difference, in Arik's opinion. The rest of the explanation quietened his alarm bells somewhat because it was sweet that Jake wanted access to him and it made sense. He knew enough about new vampires to know they were incredibly thirsty all the time and, because of his new nature, he'd have been forced to quit his day job anyway.

At least, this way, he'd have a legitimate alternative and wouldn't just be relying on his sire to support him like a little bitch. The notion of him vying for dominance in whatever role Jake put him in was strange when he didn't know exactly what job he'd get. 'Businesses' was vague but Arik supposed he'd cope. It was the other thing Jake said that grabbed his attention. "You have another fledgeling?" he asked, his eyes narrowing. "A female?" he elaborated, hinting that he wanted to know more about this other fledge and the potential relationship they'd have to one another.

What was she to Jake? A lover and fledgeling? Arik's hairs bristled at the thought.
