She gave the guard a withering look and tightened her hands in her lap. "You get paid for those bright comments?" It was weak, she knew, but it was the best she could come up with. Keely was distracted by a prime case of the butterflies. What would Lord Dagger\'s place look like? Would all of the guards be as moronic as this one? How long before she could slip out and locate her mother?

All of those questions would have to wait to be answered, however, because she wasn\'t going to ask him about them. As for the butterflies? She held them down by occupying herself with watching the passing scenery.

Despite her worries, it was very interesting to see the homes and shops gradually go from wooden and about to fall over to majestic stone. "Bet it cost a pretty copper to get those in here," she mused under her breath.

"You have no idea," the guard replied, forgetting that he was supposed to be annoyed with her.  He too, was looking out the window of the narrow carriage at the grand houses - something he would never occupy, unless in his dreams.  Lord Dagger was as close to that kind of money he was going to get, and envied this common girl her lineage.  Bastard child or not, the Lord had decided to openly accept her, which meant she was one of the luckiest people he knew.

He stared at her now, contemplating how different her life would be.

"No, I don\'t," she admitted, smiling ruefully when she caught him staring. Her attention was grabbed away from him, though, when she saw a massive building with several horses and riders either entering or leaving the huge double doors.

"It has two levels?" Her voice was shaking in her excitement, and she tucked a leg underneath herself, rearranging her skirts in a practiced movement, and then scooted over to peer at the building before they passed it completely.

"Only horses I\'ve touched are those poor beasts the farmers bring in for the Day of Worship." She wrinkled her nose, as if she smelled something foul, and rubbed the inside of one arm. One of those old nags had decided she looked tasty.

Sighing, she slumped back into her seat, then she brightened. Maybe this new setup wasn\'t going to be that bad after all.
